Round-UpCelebrity Watch—Jan 2023: Omega Watches Rule The Beginning Of Hollywood’s Awards Season
With only a smattering of a few other brands, Omega had a dominant presence on the red carpet at the 2023 Hollywood awards season’s first major events—the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics’ Choice Awards. Here are some of the most prominent watch sightings
May We Recommend
Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra and De Ville Trésor
Andrew Garfield—Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards
At literally every red carpet appearance that Andrew Garfield has made in the last several months, he has been seen wearing an Omega. Sometimes it’s a Seamaster, sometimes a De Ville. In January, he wore both at the Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards, respectively. His Seamaster Aqua Terra was the one with a pale metallic-orange dial, but with a brown leather strap, while the watch otherwise has a steel bracelet.
The De Ville he sported at the more recent Critics’ Choice event was a classic gold-and-brown leather watch.
Omega Seamaster De Ville Trésor
Eddie Redmayne—Golden Globe Awards
While Garfield may not be an ambassador of Omega—contrary to what one might suspect—Eddie Redmayne is. The Oscar-winning actor, who’s been in the limelight this season for his work in Netflix’s The Good Nurse, wore a De Ville Trésor in blue and gold at the Golden Globe Awards. The blue offset against his dark chocolate ensemble was an interesting choice, but it worked!
Jaeger-LeCoultre 101 Reine
Anya Taylor-Joy—Critics’ Choice Awards
Another brand ambassador—Anya Taylor-Joy for Jaeger-LeCoultre—wore the 101 Reine at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Announced as an ambassador only last September, Taylor-Joy has been doing her recent rounds of public appearances mainly to support her film The Menu. The watch she wore is a classic jewellery dress timepiece, previously seen on the wrist of another Jaeger-LeCoultre brand ambassador, Amanda Seyfried. The movement in this tiny jewellery watch is actually a mechanical—calibre 101, which is a true triumph in miniaturisation.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Glen Powell—Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards
Taking a page out of Andrew Garfield’s book, Glen Powell has also been seen wearing Omega at most of his recent appearances. While he’s worn various collections previously, the Top Gun: Maverick actor chose an Omega De Ville Prestige for both these major awards shows in January. We suspect we’ll see more Omega on his wrist as the hit Top Gun sequel gains momentum going further into this awards season, having already been nominated for six Oscars.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Paul Dano—Golden Globe Awards
Showing up for his Oscar-nominated film, Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, Paul Dano also chose the Omega De Ville Prestige at the Golden Globe Awards. The actor who plays the Riddler in The Batman (2022) went black-tie, and paired his look with a Master Chronometer Prestige—featuring a grey dial and golden accents.
Omega Speedmaster 57
Barry Keoghan—Golden Globe Awards
The rising star of The Banshees of Inisherin, Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan also made an appearance in The Batman, in a scene with Dano in fact. While it’s been hinted that he’ll be the Joker in some Batman sequel, he’s making his appearances this season to support his Ireland-based film. At the Golden Globe Awards, he sported a cool light blue ensemble, and paired it appropriately with the Speedmaster 57 chronograph watch, in blue. This recent release is quite a flagbearer for the bi-compax chronograph series.
Omega Globemaster and TAG Heuer Carrera
Sebastian Stan—Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe Awards
Sebastian Stan, the Pam and Tommy star—who’s received a number of nominations for the limited series about Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee—mixed it up around the awards’ circuit in January. At the Golden Globe Awards, he went with a classic black-and-white look, and paired it with a dressy rendition of TAG Heuer’s motorsport watch, Carrera.
But at the Critics’ Choice, he went for the more modern blue ensemble with a Globemaster in steel and gold.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Matt Bomer—Golden Globe Awards
Back to the Prestige with Matt Bomer! The Golden Globe-winning actor was at the event to support his friend and collaborator, TV producer Ryan Murphy who was receiving an honorary award. Bomer went with a deep plum jacket in velvet, and offset it with a grey De Ville Prestige in steel and gold. This edition of the dress watch is a simple three-hand, time-and-date version.
Omega De Ville Prestige and Trésor
Ke Huy Quan—Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards
And finally coming to this year’s winners, here’s Oscar nominee Ke Huy Quan, who has won a Golden Globe Award as well as Critics’ Choice Award for his supporting role in the Oscar-nominated Everything Everywhere all at Once. The Vietnamese-American actor, who is pretty much a sure-shot presently for this year’s supporting-actor Oscar, went classic at the Globes, and paired his black-tie ensemble with a small, 34mm De Ville Prestige in steel and gold.
At the Critics’ Choice Awards, he went more vivid with a textured cherry-coloured jacket, complementing it with a De Ville Trésor in similar tones, and gold.
Omega Constellation
Brendan Fraser—Critics’ Choice Awards
An actor who’s fast emerging as a frontrunner for the best-actor Oscar, Brendan Fraser has received acclaim for his work as a morbidly obese man in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. While he received his Critics’ Choice Award, the former actor of The Mummy films was wearing a black tuxedo, and paired it interestingly with a Master Chronometer Constellation in 18-karat Sedna gold, with blue for the dial, bezel and leather strap.
Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 Ceramic Blue
Novak Djokovik—Australian Open
A winner of a different kind, tennis player Novak Djokovik won the Australian Open for a 10th time. The first major tennis event of the year unfolded in January, which also marked Djokovik’s 22nd Grand Slam title—meeting the existing record of maximum Grand Slam wins so far. An ambassador for Hublot, Djokovik was wearing a Big Bang MECA-10 timepiece in blue ceramic, as he lifted the trophy at the event. A skeleton watch displaying its movement’s 10-day power reserve, this watch has been on Djokovik’s wrist even previously.
