May We Recommend
British actor Eddie Redmayne’s journey from being a teen actor with a couple of roles on television to an Academy Award winner has been exhilarating. From the 2012 musical Les Misérables to his stellar Oscar-winning portrayal of the late Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything in 2014, Redmayne went on to wow the audiences with The Danish Girl and then joined the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, as magizoologist Newt Scamander in 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and his most recent screen outing, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which was released in November last year. In addition, he was appointed OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for services to drama at the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2015.
Having achieved glorious heights in his acting career through a series of beautiful and challenging roles, Redmayne is also revered for his moments of sartorial excellence, occupying the numero uno position at numerous international best dressed lists—GQ, to cite one. One mainstay in Redmayne’s lookbook for years has been an Omega watch. The actor’s innate sense of style includes his fondness for well-tailored classic pieces, neutral colours and slimmer features, which supplement his sharp taste in watches as well (and the fact that he is an Omega ambassador).
Often spotted adorning the Globemaster and Seamaster, Redmayne is genuinely passionate about the Swiss watchmaker, which can be attributed to a thin gold Omega De Ville watch his father wore for decades.
There is a fascinating connection between the Omega Aqua Terra and the actor’s career trajectory. The Aqua Terra, a collection under the Seamaster family, was first introduced to the world in 2002. Interestingly, Redmayne, too, came on to the acting scene that year by marking his professional stage debut in Twelfth Night, for Shakespeare’s Globe at the Middle Temple Hall. Striking a fine balance between sophistication and the ocean spirit, the Aqua Terra watches draw inspiration from the earliest Seamaster models. This water baby, who is quite at home with these robust dress watches on the wrist, Redmayne is attracted to the quiet elegance, modest size and refined individuality these timepieces offer. Staunch followers of the ‘effortlessly classic’—both the actor and the watchmaker—one has quietly taken a seat at Hollywood’s top table and the other is making waves in the world of watchmaking. As he turns 37 this January 6 and still looks as young as ever, we recommend a few ‘fantastic beasts’ by Omega as we tell you where to find them.
