Admiring the intricate craftsmanship of mechanical watches, car enthusiasts have often found themselves irresistibly drawn to the precision and artistry of such timepieces. This has given rise to some of the most admirable automotive-inspired watches. The Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown adds to this spectacular list of watches that join hands with the thrill of motor racing. The original Grand Sport Tourbillon was released in 2019, and now the new Golden Brown variant turbo-charges the collection further. Its robust cushion-shaped case draws inspiration from the clean lines and gorgeous curves of sleek luxury cars. Inside the streamlined and low profile case revs the high-performance LF619.01 tourbillon calibre with a double balance spring. While the aesthetic punch of the watch is formidable, it also uses the 5N red gold—a precious metal that lends sophistication to this timepiece. The latest addition to the lineup—the Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown—surpasses its predecessors in opulence. Previously released in two all-steel versions in limited editions of 12 each, the brand now unveils a heightened level of luxury by issuing this new offering in a limited edition of 24 timepieces.

Brimming With Browns: The Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown

Matching the integrated case and bracelet crafted from 5N red gold is the dial of the Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown presented in exquisite, graduated shades of chocolate brown; a colour scheme that evokes the warm golden shades of autumn. With countless painstaking details, the Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown gains a highly exclusive aura.

In another example of the watchmaker’s meticulous craftsmanship, the graduated dial with chocolate tones progresses from light to darker browns from the coaxial to the dial edge. The dial has a red gold applique applied with white Super-LumiNova for reading time under any light conditions. Completing the look is an opaline texture finish that renders a soft, understated look typical of the brand’s style. The iconic drop-shaped hour markers and Assegai-shaped hands, both made from red gold, have also been made larger for enhanced illumination of the Super-LumiNova. A protective domed sapphire crystal over the dial lends the entire timepiece a rounded profile when viewed from the side.

The Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown makes a bold statement on the wrist, by weighing around 310g with a case measuring 44mm in diameter. This case features a mix of satin-brushed and mirror-polished components. Its cushion-shaped bezel offers a nice contrast with the circular satin-brushed finish and polished sides. The middle section of the case is barrel-shaped, combining vertical satin brushing on the top, horizontal satin brushing on the profile, and polished sides. Crafted from 5N red-gold, the bracelet consists of three-link rows with vertical satin brushing and the central links are bevelled with polished edges.

Power-Packed Performance: Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown

Laurent Ferrier won a prestigious award in 2010 for its Classic Tourbillon watch at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). This watch featured a special manually wound movement with a tourbillon and a double balance spring. The new Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown uses the same movement but with a modernised look. This tourbillon mechanism is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.

The Watch Guide

With a frequency of 3Hz and an 80-hour power reserve, the Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Golden Brown aims for high accuracy

With the tourbillon, a watch can counteract the effects of gravity. By using two reverse-assembled balance springs, any sideways movement of the balance is cancelled out. Combining these systems, along with a frequency of 3Hz and an 80-hour power reserve results in a watch that aims for high accuracy.

Right up the alley of those who value precision, this timepiece delivers not only exceptional accuracy and performance, but the stunning design also embodies the breathtaking experience of motor racing.
