Watches with meteorite dials are rare. Watches with green meteorite dials take it a notch further. Like the new Czapek Antarctique Green Meteor. This timepiece uses Gibeon meteorite, originally stone-cold grey like most meteorites, but Czapek gives it a dark green lacquer. Green dials are voguish, and currently trending are sage or pale/whitish green hues. With Antarctique Green Meteor, Czapek have joined a long list of top horological brands such as Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Vacheron Constantin, Omega, Patek Philippe, Piaget, H. Moser, noted for experimenting with deep, vivid green dials.

Celestial Aura: Czapek Green Meteor

The first watch from the Czapek Antarctique line in 2020 was the Antarctique Terre Adélie with textured steel dial. It was followed by Passage of Drake iterations named after the brave English explorer of the high seas Sir Francis Drake, which have colourful monotone dials displaying a distinct atypical trapezoid pattern. The third version, also the latest one is the Green Meteor. It features a 40.5mm stainless steel case having a distinct double trompe l’oeil or ‘optical illusion’ curve. This case cradles a textured dial fashioned entirely from the Gibeon meteorite that landed in Namibia, approximately around 600 million years ago. Largely comprising iron-nickel alloy, this meteorite also features good quantities of cobalt and phosphorus. After acquisition, the meteorite was acid-washed and polished to enhance its natural crystalline patterns known as the Widmanstätten. Depending on how light hits the surface, the green looks different with the light on it and the shadows created thereof.

For a subtle bicolour appearance, all the timekeeping elements over the green dial are grey. This includes, the sword-shaped hour and minute hands, trapezoid indexes, and the brand logo. A slim, long, red or red-tipped seconds hand cuts a sharp contrast across the green dial.

Green Meteor With Intricate Skeletal Calibre

The in-house SXH5.01 automatic movement, created in partnership with Swiss manufacturers and craftsmen, is visible from the caseback. You can spot the off-centred micro-rotor, free-sprung balance wheel with four gold adjustable weights and a gear train attached to seven handsome skeletonised bridges. The movement’s design takes inspiration from the XIX century pocket watch and the Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie chronograph’s rotor. Along with attention to precision, finer details such as superlative finishing on the bridges and state-of-the-art laser engravings further enhance the look of the movement.
