SpotlightFrom Depths To Downtown: Introducing Maurice Lacroix’s Pontos S Diver 2024 Timepieces

Maurice Lacroix transforms the rugged Pontos S Diver into an urban icon for 2024 with two new versions in black or bronze—blending robust functionality with sleek city style

May We Recommend

While purpose-built dive watches are engineered to survive the rigours of the deep, the reality is that most spend their days conquering concrete jungles rather than braving the briny depths. As trends in watchmaking continue drifting toward casual, daily-wear designs, Maurice Lacroix are giving their capable Pontos S Diver collection a stylish urban makeover for 2024 with two new models designed to look right at home on city streets.

For those unfamiliar with the Pontos S Diver, it channels the spirit of vintage compressor-style dive watches with its distinctive dual-crown design. The main crown at three o’clock operates the movement as usual, while the additional crown at two o’clock controls an internal bi-directional timing bezel. This unique configuration takes some getting used to compared to a standard external bezel, but the symmetry and balanced look on the wrist is undeniably cool.

A Brief History

Although it debuted in 2013, the modern Pontos S Diver’s history was unfortunately cut short, getting discontinued in 2016 after just a few short years to allow the brand to focus on its wildly successful Aikon collection. But consumer demand kept the Pontos flame flickering, and Maurice Lacroix finally relaunched the sporty diver last year with some refinements, like a downsized 42mm case profile for improved everyday wearability.

Stealthy Black DLC Edition

For 2024, Maurice Lacroix are building on that momentum with two new striking and street-savvy versions. The first is a special edition with a bold stealthy aesthetic, coating the stainless-steel case in black DLC. The grained black dial continues the shadowy colour scheme, using white plots of Super-LumiNova for the markers and black for the hands, save for a pop of bright yellow on the minutes hand for contrast. Blacking out the date wheel was a nice touch to complete the stealthy military styling.

Vintage-Inspired Bronze Model

If the murdered-out look is a bit too monotone, the other new Pontos S Diver variant makes a warm, lively statement with its bronze case. Here, the grained black dial gets a more vintage-inspired colour palette, substituting the white lume for a rich beige tone, and gold accents for the markers and hands provide lovely contrast against the earthy bronze case. A slim brown leather strap completes this old-world diver’s tool watch vibe. This variant is limited to 888 pieces.

Case, Crystal, And Movement

Both cases measure a very wearable 42mm by 13mm and feature sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating, screw-down crowns, and 300m of water resistance (less than the original’s 600m rating but more than adequate for most). On the underside, the Pontos S Diver’s closed screw-in caseback allows for slimmer proportions compared to a display back, while the Maurice Lacroix calibre ML115 automatic movement inside provides a proven workhorse of timekeeping with a 38-hour power reserve.

A Smart Move For Maurice Lacroix

It’s clever moves like these that help establish Maurice Lacroix as a real player in the accessible luxury space. By broadening the scope of the tool watch concept beyond just dedicated diving duty, the brand makes a bold claim that watches like the urban-inspired Pontos S Diver 2024 are ready to transition from occasional sporting use to being legitimate everyday luxury companions in the concrete jungle. If the brand keeps churning out designs this stylish and versatile at attractive price points, there’s little doubt that more and more watch lovers will be lining up to answer that call.
