After introducing colour to their Aikon Automatic series of watches last summer, this year, Maurice Lacroix add pastel pink and blue to their quartz timepieces with the Aikon Quartz Colours line. The brand’s Aikon Quartz collection, distinctive for the six arms on the bezel that are a defining trait in these daily-wear urban sports watches, has so far been restricted to classic shades of black, blue, silver and green—not anymore, though. Now, despite being surrounded by the cold, in the almost colourless Jura mountains, the brand evoke coastal sunset hues in a beautiful and joyous expression of functional—and accessible—timekeeping. By introducing light pink and blue to the collection, Maurice Lacroix make the Aikon Quartz Colours line more versatile by creating the right balance between serious and playful.

Aikon Quartz Colours, Meet Sophistication

Introduced in 2016 as quartz-powered timepieces inspired by the brand’s Calypso collection from the 1990s, the Aikon line soon became one of Maurice Lacroix’s most defining signatures, with both automatic and quartz movements powering timepieces, offering a variety of functions in various sizes. Now, the brand enhance the versatility and appeal of the Aikon Quartz collection with the introduction of two new hues on the dials. Sized at 35mm, the timepieces feature the collection’s signature six arms on the bezel, and integrated five-link steel bracelet with brushed and polished finishing. Like all other Aikon timepieces, Maurice Lacroix have equipped this collection too with the brand’s ‘easy-change system’, giving the wearer the option to change the strap from steel to rubber without the use of any extra tools.

Matt-finished dials in ‘sunset pink’ or ‘deep sky blue’ feature rhodium indexes set with 56 diamonds, and rhodium-plated hands filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility. Only a date window at three o’clock disrupts the diamond-studded indexes, with the brand logo and name at 12 o’clock being the only other decoration on the sophisticated dial.

A third reference of the Aikon Quartz Colours collection features a more comfortably-sized 40mm case with the distinctive geometric bezel, and brushed and polished finishes that match the five-link bracelet. Here, too, the brand offer their easy-change system, should the wearer want to switch to a different strap. The six-armed bezel frames a dial in ‘deep sky blue’ which is really better described as a pastel blue. On the 40mm timepiece, the indexes, like the Super-LumiNova-filled hands, are rhodium plated, and sans any decoration. A minute track runs around the dial’s flange, with a framed date window with numerals in black against white at three o’clock.

The water resistance on all Aikon Quartz Colours timepieces has been rated at 100m, although only the 40mm watches display this information on the dial. The watches are powered by a quartz calibre, and while this isn’t considered as ‘cool’ as a mechanical timepiece, it is more practical with daily use, as quartz watches require way less maintenance than their automatic counterparts.

The Aikon Automatic line grew with every addition of a chronograph, skeleton watch-face, or bright coloured dials, becoming the mainstay of the brand. Now, with the addition of these two lively and happy ‘summer shades’, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz line too has been made more versatile, contemporary, and accessible to a whole new generation with varied tastes. An excellent way to keep an eye on the generational ball, we’d say.
