As athletes from over 190 countries gear up for the Summer Olympic Games being held in Paris this time, official timekeepers Omega release a new Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo timepiece, inspired by Swedish pole vaulter Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis. As a nod to Duplantis and the country he represents, the latest Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m timepiece features a blue opaline dial with prominent highlights in yellow for the Swedish flag. Paired with a textured blue rubber strap with distinctive yellow stitching, there’s no mistaking the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo edition.
Omega And The Olympics: Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo Edition
The 24-year-old Armand Duplantis, who recently set a new world record with a height of 6.24m, has been an Omega brand ambassador since 2020. He also subsequently won his first Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, which incidentally took place in 2021. Since then, Duplantis has bagged multiple championship titles, while also setting new world records. His latest 6.24m record was claimed at the annual Diamond League athletics meet in Xiamen, China, held this April.
In archetypal Omega style, the latest Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo edition too is understated, yet distinct in its association with the athlete it is inspired by. The 41mm steel timepiece features brushed and polished finishes, and is paired with an integrated, textured rubber strap in blue, with yellow stitching that matches the highlights on the dial. An exhibition caseback displays the brand’s co-axial Master Chronometer calibre 8900, boasting enhanced precision and resistance against magnetic fields.
Omega’s Ode To Sweden: Dial Of The Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo Edition
The blue dial of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo Edition is decorated with the collection’s horizontal stripes that evoke the teak deck of a yacht. With an opaline finish, this blue dial is offset by accents in yellow. The ‘Seamaster’ name under the Omega logo at 12 o’clock, numerals every 15 minutes on the minute track around the periphery of the dial, and the seconds hand stand out in a bright golden-yellow. Instead of an arrowhead on the seconds hand as is a sort of signature of the Aqua Terra collection, the seconds hand on this Mondo timepiece is shaped like the pole used in the sport. A Super-LumiNova-filled tip on this seconds hand evokes the grip of the flexible pole. Arrow-shaped indexes and timekeeping hands on the dial are also filled with lume, aiding legibility.
Omega’s Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m line of sports watches are known for their effortlessly luxurious everyday appeal. And yet, somehow, the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Mondo timepiece manages to take the sportiness of the watch up several notches. Besides being a super-cool watch inspired by a real, actual star in the world of athletics, that is.
