Ulysse Nardin’s association with marine exploration has, over the years, inspired a number of stunning timepieces designed specifically for free-spirited adventurers. The latest Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll watch affirms not just the brand’s oceanic inspiration, but also their commitment towards sustainability, all in keeping with their technical watchmaking savoir faire. With a dial made from chrysocolla, a mineral ore of copper, also associated with harmony, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll lives up to its name in terms of ethereal beauty (an atoll is a group of coral islands surrounding a lagoon). The brains behind this beauty is an automatic calibre with the brand’s silicon escapement wheel and anchor. And with a case made from 80 percent recycled steel as part of the brand’s sustainability efforts, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll seems to have a heart of gold as well.
The Sparkle Of Coral On The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll
The 39mm steel case of the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll timepiece fits comfortably, with a gracious presence even on smaller wrist sizes. Forty diamonds, amounting to 0.8 carat, decorate the unidirectional rotating dive bezel, with numerals clearly marked at cardinal points. Despite this gorgeous frame, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll is actually a functional dive watch with a water resistance rating of up to 300m. Behind the closed caseback embellished with a wind rose engraving, is the automatic UN-816 calibre with the silicon escapement that helped put the brand’s iconic Freak on the horological map in 2001. This is the same calibre that powers the Diver Starry Night, released last year, which offers a power reserve of up to 42 hours.
The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll Dives Into A Beautiful Blue Lagoon
Following the mesmerising aventurine glass dial of the Diver Starry Night, the latest Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll timepiece has a deep, ethereal impact, with its unique chrysocolla dial. Each of the 100 timepieces in the limited edition appears distinct, courtesy of the mineral that forms the base for the dial. Chrysocolla’s association with harmony, communication and calmness makes it ideal for relaxation. More importantly, the aesthetic value the gemstone with hues of blue, green and brown lends to the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll timepiece is reminiscent of a real-life lagoon amidst coral reefs.
Much like the embellishment on mother-of-pearl and aventurine glass dials on the Diver 39mm, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll timepiece too features 11 diamonds measuring 0.12 carats as hour markers. Winged timekeeping hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for easy time-telling in the dark, as is the marker at 12 o’clock. At six is a circular date window that, due to the nature of the natural mineral, blends beautifully with the dial.
The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll is paired with either a textured rubber strap or alligator leather strap, both in white to offset the shades of blue and turquoise on the dial. With mesmerising beauty, brains that defy its looks, and a heart of solid gold, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll is a stunning example of the brand’s expertise with both form and function.
