Highly regarded among watch enthusiasts, Doxa dive watches have a loyal following when it comes to their tool timepieces that serve as life-saving equipment under water. From the Swiss Army’s elite divers to American author and diving enthusiast Clive Cussler, there are those who swear by the Swiss watchmaking brand when it comes to underwater exploration. Besides clean legibility and precise diving and decompression scales on the bezel, Doxa dive watches offer distinctive case shapes and bright dials that are uber-functional during an underwater dive, and also serve as cool, contemporary and versatile daily-wear tool timepieces.
Diving In With Doxa Dive Watches
The Doxa brand (which, in Greek, means ‘glory’) was established by 21-year-old watchmaker Georges Ducommun in 1889, whose innovations won numerous accolades over the years. Among the brand’s most defining moments was the development and release of the 1960s’ Doxa Sub 300T, which was the first functional dive timer with an orange dial—a revolutionary concept at a time when watch dials were either black, white or silver. Doxa also developed and patented the unidirectional rotating bezel with a dual desaturation and diving scale that effectively allowed the diver to calculate how long to remain at a certain depth without making decompression stops when resurfacing. For 135 years, the Doxa brand has focussed on creating purpose-driven tool watches and the acclaim they have received is largely justified. Here are some of the best Doxa dive watches available today.

Fiction inspired by reality
Doxa Sub 300T Clive Cussler
Anyone who has read Clive Cussler’s novels starring fictional protagonist Dirk Pitt knows Doxa dive watches and its orange dials. The American author and underwater adventurer featured prominently the Doxa Sub 300T ‘Professional’ orange timepiece in a deadline-driven mystery for Dirk Pitt to solve. In 2023, Doxa introduced the Sub 300T Clive Cussler timepiece with the signature 42.5mm cushion case, and dual dive time and decompression time unidirectional bezel that are instant identifiers of a Doxa watch. A deliberately aged steel case and handmade dial, symbolic of a vintage compass, is a call to adventure and an ode to Cussler’s explorations—both on paper and under water. On the date window at three, numerals seven, 15, and 31 are highlighted in red as a nod to author’s birth date—July 15, 1931.
Swiss army-approved diver
Doxa Army
In the 1960s, the Swiss Army created an elite group of military divers, who, in 1969, adopted a version of the Doxa 300T, giving rise to the Doxa Army diver. Naturally, this fell under the category of ‘classified’ tools used by the corps, and was not declassified until 50 years later. In 2022, Doxa released the first reissue of the Army watch in 316L stainless steel. The 42.5mm cushion shaped steel case of the Doxa Army timepiece, water-resistant to 300m, features a unidirectional rotating bezel in steel or bronze, with a ceramic insert in black or deep ‘hunter’ green. Against a beige dial, checkerboard indexes filled with Super-LumiNova aid legibility in dark conditions. Doxa’s Army timepieces are powered by the automatic ETA 2824 calibre.
Diving with sunshine
Doxa Sub 300T DivingStar
Yellow is likely the most legible colour visible underwater on a dive watch dial, after orange, that is. The Doxa Sub 300T DivingStar features a cushion-shaped case crafted from 316L stainless steel, with a water resistance rating of up to 1,200 metres that facilitates deep dives. The screwed-down crown is decorated with the Doxa fish logo in yellow to match the DivingStar dial, while the steel bezel is cleanly marked with dive and desaturation times. On the unmistakable yellow dial of this Doxa dive watch, hour indexes and timekeeping hands are generously filled with Super-LumiNova. The watch is powered by the ETA 2824-2 automatic calibre, and paired with a ‘grains of rice’ bracelet or a matching yellow rubber strap.
Down-sized diver
Doxa Sub 200T Sea Emerald
Earlier this year, an updated version of the Sub 300T surfaced, the Doxa Sub 200T dive watch, in a smaller case size and a new hue. Symbolising Doxa’s versatility and futuristic outlook, the brand released the 39mm 316L steel timepiece with a height of 10.7mm, with a water resistance rating of up to 200m, and the brand’s signature dive bezel. Only now, there’s a new addition to the dial with a ‘Sea Emerald’ green, besides the standard seven hues seen on Doxa dive watches. Golden indexes and hands offset the sunray-brushed finish of the dial, all filled with Super-LumiNova, making this Doxa Sub 200T Sea Emerald just as functional a dive watch as it is a contemporary everyday timepiece.
Diver with a handy chronograph
Doxa Sub 200 C-Graph II Aquamarine
A diver with a stopwatch function makes for quite the versatile timepiece. Sized at a comfortable 42mm, the Doxa Sub 200 C-Graph II Aquamarine is just such a tool watch. Crafted from 316L stainless steel, the round case—a departure from Doxa’s ‘egg-shaped’ watches—features a clean unidirectional rotating dive bezel with a shark tooth edging that enables easy handling. A screwed-down crown is decorated with the Doxa fish emblem in turquoise to match the cool hue of the dial. The sunray-brushed dial of the Sub 200 C-Graph II features three sub-dials at nine, three and six o’clock, and indexes and hands are filled with Super-LumiNova.
Pearl diver
Doxa Sub 200 WhitePearl
The sporty-looking all-white Sub 200 WhitePearl joined the pallete of Doxa dive watches in 2021. With a 42mm round case in 316L steel, and a unidirectional rotating bezel marked in black against white, the Doxa Sub 200 WhitePearl offers water resistance of up to 200m. With a height of 13.8mm, the watch sits comfortably on most wrist sizes. However, the beauty of this timepiece is its clean white dial, with a minute track in black around the periphery, and large and legible indexes and timekeeping hands filled with Super-LumiNova. The textured white rubber strap completes the cool, all-white aesthetic of the Sub 200 WhitePearl watch.
Iconic orange dive watch
Doxa Sub 300 Professional
As far as aesthetics go, the Doxa Sub 300 Professional is a faithful re-interpretation of the brand’s iconic 1967 watch with an orange dial, but it is also contemporary for its updated COSC-certified movement and orange rubber strap. The 42.5mm egg-shaped cushioned case features a domed sapphire crystal glass, framed by Doxa’s dual dive bezel, marked in orange for depth indications and in black for dive time. Against a bright orange dial, lume-filled indexes and a minute track in black stand out, with timekeeping hands also filled with Super-LumiNova. Paired with a matching rubber strap in orange, this Doxa Sub 300 Professional timepiece is a contemporary tribute to an icon from the archives.
Carbon diver
Doxa Sub 300 Carbon SharkHunter
With a forged carbon case and bezel, the Doxa Sub 300 Carbon SharkHunter is a futuristic take on the 1967 orange Sub. Its black dial and strap are interrupted by black and grey marbling on its 42.5mm case, whose internal casing is made from titanium. Bright orange highlights for the desaturation scale on the bezel and the minutes hand on the dial stand out against the stealthy timepiece. White is used for the dive timer on the bezel, minute track, indexes, hours and seconds hands, date window at three, and the brand logo at 10 and the watch name at four o’clock on the dial. The Doxa Sub 300 Carbon SharkHunter is powered by the COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 automatic calibre.
Diver version 2.0
Doxa Sub 300 Beta SharkHunter
Released in 2023, the Doxa Sub 300 Beta SharkHunter timepiece features a 42.5mm case crafted from titanium, with a crown and bezel in yellow gold, and is water resistant to 300m. While the recognisable ‘egg-shaped’ case of Doxa remains, the watch is a distinct departure from the brand’s design codes. On the grained black dial, gilded indexes match the crown and edging of the bezel, while the minute track, date window at three o’clock and timekeeping hands are in black. Legibility, however, remains uncompromised as both indexes and hands are filled generously with Super-LumiNova. The dual scale is engraved on the bezel, with a lume filled dot at 12 o’clock.
The serious diver
Doxa Sub 1500T Caribbean
After the success of their Sub 300 watches, Doxa released more serious divers like the Sub 1000 with a water resistance rating of 1,000m, followed by the Sub 1500T, which can go further by at least 500m. Sized at a considerable 45mm, the monobloc steel case of the Doxa Sub 1500T Caribbean timepiece features the brand’s dual diving scale marked in orange and black on a bezel with signature shark-toothed edging. A gently curved sapphire crystal glass protects the beautiful blue dial. Rectangular indexes are filled with Super-LumiNova, and an orange, lume-filled minutes hand stands out against the white markings on the dial. The watch is powered by ETA 2892-2 automatic calibre.
By focussing on perfecting their purpose-driven diving tools, Doxa dive watches have defined their identity in the world of Swiss timepieces. Here is a dive watch brand that looks back at its heritage while also staying updated when it comes to materials, sizes and contemporary design codes.
