In an industry that thrives on innovation, Perrelet are synonymous with developing the ‘turbine technology’ for their timepieces with their first Turbine model, launched in 2009. Inspired by the aeronautical propulsion system, this was patented the same year, and today counts as one of the most important elements in several collections offered by the Swiss brand. While this may be a constant, they never cease to amaze with their timekeepers that always stand out for their execution, just like the new Turbine Space Conquest, produced in a limited-edition of 50 pieces—right in time as this year marks the 55th anniversary of the first lunar landing. This new 41mm watch is inspired by the intergalactic world—a space that’s often propelled mankind to carry out several exploration missions, where technological innovation plays a crucial role. And it comes as no surprise that Perrelet have chosen the Turbine model to bring this ‘space’ vision to life.
The Perrelet Turbine Conquest is a visual treat as it showcases elements that are reminiscent of the vast expanse and its different shades. It’s high on the design aspect and as the turbine on top of the dial rotates, it reveals the lower dial disc with its ever-changing motifs. Measuring 41mm and crafted in grade-2 titanium, the watch is water-resistant to 100m and is presented on a matching titanium bracelet. The case is topped by a smooth bezel and features a vertically fluted caseback, triple lugs and a prominent crown bearing the brand’s logo.
As stated earlier, the dial is the real showstopper here with a black 12-blade turbine in black anodised aluminium with five tungsten counterweights below, which rotate in time with the movements of the wrist, revealing the lower dial. Here, the speed of the turbine rotation is directly proportional to the clarity of the motif on the lower dial. So, the faster it rotates, the more visibility in terms of optics. This is decorated with the image of the lunar landscape along with an astronaut, floating due to the lack of gravitational force, and the Earth, as viewed from the Moon. The top dial or the turbine disc features Arabic numerals along with indices—arranged in an alternate manner. These, along with the hour and minute hands are all filled with Super-LumiNova for legibility in low-light conditions. The slender and sleek seconds hand in red, provides the much-needed pop of colour on the watch face.
The Perrelet Turbine Space Conquest is driven by the manufacture calibre P-331-MH—an automatic COSC-certified movement beating at 28,800vph, providing an energy reserve of at least 42 hours. Developed in 2019, this movement boasts improvements such as: the pallet being fitted with superior quality rubies for higher performance and reliability, the new lubricating system for optimum performance of the bidirectional winding system, and the balance wheel with a double-cone Incabloc shock absorber for greater resistance against knocks and shocks. This powerhouse also comes with a Chronofiable chronometry certification, and features perlage decoration on the bridges and a skeletonised rhodium-plated satin-brushed oscillating weight with the brand’s logo—all visible through the exhibition caseback.
The timepiece comes in a tactical box, customised with the depiction of the lunar landscape motif on the inside, and each piece carries the inscription ‘Limited Edition XX/50’, thereby highlighting the exclusivity factor of this limited-edition offering.
