At Geneva Watch Days 2024, the Swiss independent watchmaker Nivada Grenchen have introduced the Depthmaster Blue, a contemporary take on their classic 1960s diver’s watch. Nivada Grenchen have reimagined their renowned 1960s ‘Pac-Man’ model with the Depthmaster Blue. The original Depthmaster was known for its distinctive indices at six and nine o’clock, reminiscent of the Pac-Man character from the iconic 1980s video game. It featured a cushion-shaped case and a 120-click bezel with a 15-minute scale. Remarkably, it was the first diver’s watch to provide a water resistance of 1,000m, a significant achievement at the time when most watches offered only 150m to 200m resistance.

Though the brand ceased operations during the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s and early 80s, it was revived in 2020 by Guillaume Laidet, the current chief brand officer, and Rémi Chabrat, CEO of the Hong Kong-based Montrichard Group. Among their relaunches, they reintroduced the Depthmaster with various dial options, including the new Depthmaster Blue. This latest model retains key features from its predecessors but also incorporates updated design elements tailored to modern collectors.
