The Turbine collection by Perrelet is a remarkable showcase of the watchmaker’s mechanical prowess. These iterations feature dials that are reminiscent of jet engines and aircraft turbines, which become fascinating when the motion of such large systems is miniaturised and displayed on your wrist. In the recent past, the Maison have presented several fun-to-wear yet practical Turbine watches, be it the Turbine Poker Royal Flush with a poker card design or the Turbine Space Conquest that shows a realistic depiction of a lunar landscape, the Earth, and an astronaut. All of this ingenuity comes naturally to the Bienne-based watchmaking company it seems, which for a solid reason is renowned for its animated dials, courtesy their patented double rotor and slick turbine technologies. Building upon this patented mechanism, Perrelet introduced two new Turbine Ice Blue watches—the Turbine Carbon Ice Blue and Turbine Titanium Ice Blue—at Geneva Watch Days 2024. The Turbine Carbon Ice Blue has a polycarbonate and carbon fibre body, whereas the Turbine Titanium Ice Blue is housed in a titanium case; both watches are driven by a high-frequency automatic movement.
Inspired By A Famous Dam: The Perrelet Turbine Ice Blue Carbon And Titanium
Taking inspiration from the Grande Dixence—the highest gravity dam in the world, located in Switzerland—Perrelet have introduced the Turbine Carbon Ice Blue and Titanium Ice Blue. The dam’s 285-metre-high wall holds an astounding 400 million cubic metres of water and supplies high-power, clean, and renewable electricity. This engineering feat testifies to the remarkable human endeavour, something that greatly inspires Perrelet to dedicate watches to the famous Grande Dixence dam.
The design of the Turbine Ice Blue watches takes direct inspiration from the massive turbines found in hydroelectric power stations. This mechanical component is a fundamental part of such facilities, making it a perfect inspiration for the watch’s iconic aesthetic. Adding a bold visual language to the watches is an ice blue colour scheme that calls to mind the various frozen forms of water.
The Carbon version combines a 44mm polycarbonate and carbon fibre case with a matt black DLC steel bezel and caseback framing the sapphire crystal porthole. On the other hand, the Titanium iteration features a 41mm case made from Grade 2 black DLC-coated titanium. Both models are water-resistant up to 100m and come fitted with a sapphire glass with double anti-reflective treatment on the dial and caseback.
The Turbine Carbon Ice Blue has a lower dial with a tone-on-tone turbine design in the watch’s signature colour, which is visible when the spinning device rotates. The chapter ring has a unique mix of indexes, and Arabic and Roman numerals in ‘Californian style’ ice blue. The watch features luminescent hour and minute hands and a blue central seconds hand. The Titanium version has a black hour track and a light blue lower dial with black turbine blades. This watch also features Arabic numerals and indexes filled with Super-LumiNova, along with the luminescent hour and minute hands. While the Turbine Carbon Ice Blue is paired with a black leather strap, the Titanium watch comes attached to an ice blue rubber strap.
A Movement That Won Two Chronometry Certifications
Both Turbine Ice Blue iterations are powered by the in-house P-331-MH automatic calibre, beating at a 4Hz frequency and providing a 42-hour power reserve. The movement is highly reliable and has two chronometry certifications from two prestigious independent institutions—it passed the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) tests and received a certification from Chronofiable.
