SpotlightTAG Heuer Add The Monaco Chronograph Racing Green To Their Racing Heritage Collection

An ode to British racing circuits, race car drivers, and the forest green hue of their liveries, the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green is a suitable addition to the Monaco Chronograph Racing collection that features the brand’s iconic calibre 11

May We Recommend

Last year’s release, the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Blue featured all that was good about the 1969 calibre 11. This timepiece also paid tribute to France’s iconic racing blue hue. The brand now present the Monaco Chronograph Racing Green watch, which proves that the Racing Blue watch was only the first, and that the Racing Green timepiece won’t be the last in the series. What stands out in this racing-inspired collection of Monaco watches is the calibre 11’s crown at nine o’clock, offset by chronograph pushers on the right of the case. Featuring just enough green to earn its racing hues, the new TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green watch stands out for how beautifully the green sub-dials and perforated strap that offset its otherwise muted grey and square aesthetic.

TAG Heuer Monaco Racing Heritage

TAG Heuer’s square watch is named after what is widely regarded one of the world’s toughest racing circuits. First released in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco was powered by the calibre 11, which was revolutionary for being the first automatic movement in a water-resistant square case. The automatic nature of the watch was demonstrated with a crown at nine, implying that it did not need to be wound manually. Racing hues of the collection are inspired by colours assigned to racing nations—blue for France, red for Italy, white and later silver for Germany, et al. An inspiration even for modern racing, Britain’s racing green is a celebrated colour in motorsports worldwide. The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green features this hue with hints of yellow.

Monaco Chronograph Racing Hues

The square dial of the Monaco Chronograph Racing Green watch features a silver sunray finish. Eight horizontal indexes correspond with a circular minute track punctuated with dot markers filled with Super-LumiNova. Two green sub-dials at nine and three o’clock house the 30-minute recorder and small seconds, respectively. This green stands out against the silver finish of dial and hands, and is offset by a central chronograph hand lacquered in yellow. At six is a date window which balances the collection name and vintage Heuer logo at 12 o’clock.

Square Details Of The Monaco Chronograph Racing Green

At 39mm, the case of the Monaco Chronograph Racing Green timepiece is crafted from sandblasted grade-2 titanium. Affixed on this lightweight and sporty material is a bevelled sapphire crystal glass, while chiselled lugs enhance the angular aesthetic of the watch. On turning the piece over, a circular window on the square caseback offers a glimpse at the movement within. A perforated racing strap in leather pairs well with the silver, green and yellow hues, while its inner lining stands out in a cool yellow.
