Round-Up6 Men’s Summer Watches That Really Stood Out This Year
Our pick of six bestselling watches of the summer season that are still very much in demand and can be worn any time of the year
May We Recommend
Summers are all about taking life a little less seriously. To be precise: it’s that time of the year when you wear fewer shoes and more slippers, prefer a cold pint on the table versus a coffee, and leave work early on Fridays to make the most of weekends. It’s also that time of the year when you leave your rare Rolex or Bucherer in a watch winder till November and slip on a rough, trendy and ‘summer ready’ watch on your wrist.
What makes a “summer ready” watch, you ask? Well for starters it must be colourful and casual, with great water resistance and clubbed with a rugged build that can withstand the ‘accidental’ plunges of your pool parties. It also doesn’t hurt if it gets you all the compliments.
Having said that, here are 6 bestselling watches that really stood out this summer, and will probably do so regardless of the season, but just don’t call them boring “timepieces”.
1. Chopard Superfast Power Control
Best for: The weekend getaway
Every weekend adventure calls for a reliable tool in hand. Doesn’t matter if you’re going out hiking, on a bike or just a long drive. And if the same watch can do the job for being your sidekick at a party later in the evening, it’s a win-win.
The Chopard Superfast Power Control doesn’t do fancy things, but with styling ripped from sports cars on the dial, a sturdy certified chronometer and a luxurious rubber strap with a deployment clasp, the Superfast perfectly complements any adventurous summer driving ensemble. One to own for sure, regardless of the season.
2. Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X33
Best for: Everyday wearing/Anytime of the day
Who needs traditional hour markers when you can run with a digital dial? A 45 mm case made from the finest titanium with an anti-reflective sapphire glass protection. The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 has a lot to offer than just usual timekeeping and is a one of a kind watch coming from Omega. Quartz powered and equipped with glow in the dark hands and a digital display, this watch is good to go for use all day and late into the night. We quite like the NATO strap on this one too!
3. TAG Heuer Formula One CR7
Best for: Sunday league football
Even if your son or daughter’s free kicks are a bit cringe-worthy right now, you can be the soccer dad on the sidelines with the coolest watch of the season. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 CR7, made in honour of arguably the best footballer in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, is more than just another special limited edition watch. It’s a watch with a clever colour scheme inspired by the game, clubbed with a trusted Formula 1 movement with a chronograph, and a neat and durable NATO strap to let you enjoy your time on the field with your loved ones. Oh and it’ll make you the most popular dad among their friends too!
4. Titoni Seascooper
Best for: The beach bum
Is there really a more perfect summer watch than a classic diver’s? How about one that’s 200m water resistant, having a Swiss made automatic movement, a nice colourful red bezel and available for a steal of a price? Living under the shadow of the relaunch of the Airmaster in India is a gem from Titoni that was actually more popular than its cousin this summer, the Seascooper. A seriously well-designed diver’s watch, with impressive specs, so you don’t have to worry about those deep sea plunges or the party on the coast.
5. Edox Chronoffshore
Best for: The pool party
For a watch that will go well with a pair of jeans or board shorts. The Chronoffshore was by far the best bet of this summer. Combining an automatic chronograph complication with a neat day-date display, with a well sculpted rose gold steel case, a classy black diving bezel and a helium escape valve, the Chronoffshore is one Edox that can go from “crazy pool party” to office with equal aplomb.
6. Panerai Radiomir 1940
Best for: When you’re on the yacht
We saved the best for the last and new Panerai Radiomir is by far the best summer watch of 2016. Panerai has managed to keep its clean and traditional style alive with the New Radomir 1940. Apart from the fact that it’s one of the only 6 Panerais ever to feature a white dial, you can’t deny this watch is summer all the way. The choice of white makes this watch easily legible for quick glances and goes pretty well with the brown strap. So once you’re done with your Yacht escapade in the day, you can throw on a linen coat and walk straight to dinner without having to swap this one at all.
