Round-UpEthos Watch Awards – Women’s Watches of 2016
Eleven of the best women's watches that stood out this year
May We Recommend
2016 was the year for some of the most spectacular and innovative watches for women. This year alone, Ethos saw over 10,000 unique watches from 61 brands come to Indian shores! Whilst we sit back and reflect on all that came and went, our panel of six watch experts had a tough time picking the best from the year, considering there were so many to choose from. Nonetheless, our jury has made their choice, based on popularity, breath-taking designs, value for money and never seen before innovation in a timepiece.
In this edition, we’ll be rounding up the Top 12 women’s watches of the year. From technically astounding timepieces (who said women don’t care about mechanical timepieces) to visually stunning watches, we had to go through a diverse and innovative plethora of timepieces to bring you this list. But before we begin to list down our favorites, we owe a huge round of applause to our panel of watch experts for making the tough choices and shortlisting the creme de la creme of 2016:
1. Watch of the Year: Carl F. Bucherer Pathos Diva
Carl F. Bucherer is a brand that is no stranger to ladies watches, and the elegantly stylish Carl F. Bucherer Pathos is a testament to Bucherer’s longstanding history (127 years to be precise) in the art of fine watchmaking and jewellery making. The Pathos for us, was undisputedly deserving of the title of ‘Watch of the Year’. A tribute to the beauty of all women, the Carl F. Bucherer Pathos Diva radiates an aura of effortless glamour. The characteristic aureole (a circle of light or brightness surrounding something) in filigree is exquisitely integrated into the side of the case which reflects light with a myriad of radiating facets. It perfectly complements the balanced design of the Pathos Diva, making it a vibrant companion by day or night. The bezel of the Pathos Diva in two-tone (18k rose & stainless steel) houses 54 Top-Wesselton diamonds (FC TW vvs 0.7ct) that perfectly encapsulate Carl F. Bucherer’s immense dedication in crafting jewellery timepieces. A well-deserving title for an exquisitely designed masterpiece.
Also available in a stainless steel option, the Carl F. Bucherer Pathos Diva starts from Rs. 262,000.
2. Baume & Mercier Petite Promesse:
Among the most anticipated watch collections for ladies, the launch of the Petite Promesse this year at SIHH 2016, by the Geneva-based watchmaker Baume & Mercier, did not disappoint. Dedicated to the strong, independent women of today, the Baume & Mercier Petite Promesse is a fun and fashionable watch. Measuring in at just 22mm, the Petite Promesse in steel, twined around your wrist is a true symbol of success and accomplishment. The polished steel wrap-around bracelet is attached to an ellipse-shaped case that houses 22 brilliant-cut, Top-Wesselton (VS, 0.16ct) diamonds that partially surround the dial. It is also available in two other variations: bright blue and spicy orange leather wrap-around straps whose dials are set with 22 and 44 brilliant cut Top Wesselton diamonds, respectively. The Petite Promesse is definitely created for women who prefer watches with a little sparkle and a lot of panache.
Available in three variations, the Baume & Mercier Petite Promesse starts from Rs 180,000 onwards.
3. Omega Constellation:
Omega is a brand that is known worldwide for high-quality watches. They have produced many iconic timepieces that strike the elusive balance between design and function. The Omega Constellation is no different. Right at home at the premier Omega stables, the timepiece is aptly characterized by its famous four “Griffes” or claws on the 18K red gold diamond-set bezel. Creating a massive aesthetic appeal is the dial of the Omega Constellation. With a stunning coral pink colour, the mother-of-pearl dial features a unique wavy pattern. The presence of 11 diamond indexes further enhances the beauty of the dial. It is powered by a self-winding Omega 8520 movement with a Co-Axial escapement and clocks in a power reserve of 50 hours.
The Omega Constellation collection starts from Rs 139,700.
4. Raymond Weil Shine:
The Shine is feminine elegance personified. This contemporary timepiece features 57 diamonds and a mother-of-pearl dial. While the delicate dial features 8 diamonds and 4 silver Roman numerals, the 32mm case is further adorned with 49 diamonds. Powered by quartz movement, the Raymond Weil Shine is equipped with a date display window at 3 o’ clock. A screwed-in caseback allows the watch to have a water resistance of up to 50m which further enhances its durability and robustness. With graceful bracelet and strap options, the Shine adapts to every occasion and style. In fact, it’s the patented system of interchangeable straps that caught our fancy!
The Raymond Weil Shine collection starts from Rs 92,550.
5. Corum Admiral’s Cup Legend Lady 38:
Two specific features of this watch that ensure a sure-shot place on this list are the signature coloured flags on the dial and the fact that it belongs to Corum’s most sought-after collection, the Admiral’s Cup. The Admiral’s Cup Legend Lady 38 is a true sports watch with a stainless steel case attached to a pristine white rubber strap. The watch runs on an automatic CO 082 movement that clocks in a power reserve of 42 hours. The coloured flag indexes (a Corum signature) set aginst the backdrop of a white dial transform the watch into a definite showstopper.
