ReviewRide Into The Fast Lane With The Tissot T-Race MotoGP Editions

Inspired by the exciting world of Grand Prix motorcycle racing are the new Tissot T-Race limited edition chronograph watches that honour the fierce men who spearhead this extreme sport

May We Recommend

There are but a few things in life that are more exhilarating and liberating than riding a motorcycle. The open highways, the wind, and the sound of a V-twin engine roaring, as you escape from the confines of the maddening city—it simply is the easiest form of therapy.

To commemorate the glorious sport of MotoGP, Tissot has released four quartz timepieces that epitomise the extreme nature of this business

But MotoGP riders are a different breed altogether. Gunning down the straights of the Mugello circuit at 350kmph requires nerves of adamantium (because steel just wouldn’t suffice). These riders need to constantly push their bikes and themselves to the limit. To commemorate the men behind the mad machines and the racing championship itself, Tissot, the official timekeeper of MotoGP, has released a number of timepieces that epitomise the extreme nature of this business.

Honouring The Greats

The four new T-Race MotoGP quartz watches released this year pay homage to three champions of the sport—Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez, and Thomas Lüthi—and to MotoGP itself, one of the fastest and most thrilling races on earth. These intricate Swiss-made timepieces feature a bezel that resembles the disc brake set-up of motorcycles—an ingenious way to honour the mean machines that make this sport possible. There are many other small details in these watches, which have been inspired by motorbike racing, that motorheads are sure to catch, such as a large bulge over the date window resembling the windscreen of a sports bike, the sub-dials at six and 10 are designed and painted in a way that they resemble two sprockets connected by a timing belt.

The MotoGP edition has a black and rose gold PVD-coating and the caseback is engraved with the official MotoGP logo, making this a must-have for every fan

The different editions have been introduced with their own sporty and unique colourways, widening the choice for collectors. The Marquez variant sports an orange colorway that is borrowed from the colours of his Honda team; the Lorenzo edition features a silver and black colourway, while the Lüthi variant has a blue and black colour scheme. The watch that honours the sport itself has a black and rose gold PVD-coating that looks brilliant. A delightful touch is that these timepieces come enclosed in a box shaped like a helmet, something that is bound to draw in collectors.

In The Pursuit Of Precision

The Swiss quartz movement that powers these limited edition watches—the calibre ETA G10.212, which has four jewels—comes loaded with accurate chronograph and date functions. This movement is enclosed in a 43mm 316L stainless steel case, paired with a sapphire crystal, making this timepiece water resistant upto 100m.

Motorcycle racing is pure, led more by the rider’s skill than mere strategy, and frankly, quite dangerous. But that’s also what makes it one of the greatest, most revered sports out there. And that’s why the new 2019 T-Race series from Tissot is an important release that is sure to be adored by watch enthusiasts and racers alike.
