It was in 1947 that a paragon of aesthetic restraint and minimalism was born. American designer Nathan George Horwitt conceived of the Movado Museum watch, and the horological world sat up and took notice. In an effort to distinguish his creation from the rest, he removed all the clutter from the dial and focused on the one thing that, today, has become Movado’s signature: a circle at 12 o’clock representing the sun at its strongest—at noon. The Museum watch was influenced by Bauhaus, a German art school known for its creative and unconventional designs.
In 2019, Movado launched a reiteration of this icon—this time with a few glamorous additions that beautifully reinterpret Horwitt’s path-breaking classic. This is the Movado Ladies’ Museum Classic Mesh, a watch that’s meant for the woman who believes in minimalism, simplicity and sophistication.
A Contemporary Cue
Sticking to Movado’s quintessential understated approach, but adding a touch of pizzazz, the Movado ladies’ Museum Classic Mesh—as is evinced from its name—is fashioned with a Milanese mesh bracelet. Though their history can be traced to the Renaissance era when these bracelets were handcrafted by goldsmiths in Milan, they still look modern and chic today.
In the Museum Classic Mesh, the bracelets have been crafted in stainless steel or PVD-coated in gregarious gold or ravishing rose gold, making them a fitting inclusion to the simplistic design of the Movado Museum. The bracelet is definitely the watches’ highlight and truly catches the eye with its delicate intricacy. The hue of the case, the hands and the signature Movado dot on the dial perfectly matches this elegant bracelet.
Pretty In Pearl
Another arresting feature of these Museum Classic Mesh timepieces is the iridescent white mother-of-pearl dial, which, when paired with the bracelet, exudes elegance and panache. As horological enthusiasts know, no one mother-of-pearl dial appears like the other, so each watch has a unique and distinctive look. Covering the lovely dial is sapphire crystal, making these watches resistant to scratches. Powering by a reliable Swiss quartz ETA movement, these petite 28mm beauties are protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
Carrying the Museum legacy on its shoulders is no mean task, but the Movado Ladies’ Museum Classic Mesh does it with absolute aplomb.
The 2019 Movado Museum Classic Mesh is available for men as well, with a beautiful blue dial. On the other hand, the natural steel Museum Classic Mesh for women also comes in a version with glittering diamonds on the bezel.
