The year 2020 marked a milestone for the town—the 175th anniversary of the arrival of watchmaking. Nomos chose to honour this momentous occasion in a remarkable way. Unveiling an array of limited-edition timepieces to commemorate the occasion, these offerings were graced with an exceptionally coveted piece, the Nomos Lambda Steel ‘175 Years of Watchmaking in Glashütte’, whose enamel dial encased in steel exuded unmatched flair and limitless sophistication. Each timepiece under the umbrella of the 175-year ‘capsule’ collection exudes a subtly luxurious charm, enhanced by refined finishes that elevate the designs. Another standout, and part of this celebratory collection now, is the reinterpretation of the Orion. Presented in a trio of sizes, each new special-edition Orion Neomatik is powered by the in-house Neomatik movement.

For the first time ever, the dial for the small seconds has not been recessed into the watch face, enhancing the watch’s refined elegance. Housed within the Nomos special-edition series Orion Neomatik ‘175 Years Watchmaking Glashütte’ are automatic Nomos calibres. Each one is meticulously signed and numbered at the workshop. These minimal timepieces are an ode to Glashütte’s distinctive features, boasting a three-quarter plate, Glashütte ribbing, and screws touched with the beauty of tempered blue. Even the DUW 610, the heartbeat of the Orion Neomatik 41 Date-the largest member of the trio-exhibits an exceptional sleekness, further underscoring the brand’s commitment to unostentatious elegance and unparalleled quality.

The Orion Neomatik: A Thoughtful Execution

Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, these Glashütte-made timepieces feature a trinity of distinguished components. The stainless steel case, graced by a domed front and back sapphire crystal, is finished with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Above the dial that has been thoughtfully domed, polished, galvanised, and silver-plated, tempered blue hands work their magic. Emphasising this fine display, embossed gold indexes add a luxurious touch, while the Nomos logo, meticulously engraved onto the crown, elegantly punctuates the design.

The Orion Neomatik 36 and 39 enclose the DUW 3001 automatic movement within their slender steel cases, boasting an impressive power reserve of approximately 43 hours. Conversely, the larger 41mm model derives its power from the DUW 6101 automatic engine, providing around 42 hours of autonomy. Complementing these watches is the Nomos winged clasp. Designed in Berlin, meticulously crafted, and hand-polished, it epitomises elegant minimalism. Accompanying the exclusive series is the remborde strap, made from Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan. This leather is characterised by its thickness, smoothness, and robustness, ensuring a remarkably long-lasting Nomos strap, maintaining the watch’s refined aesthetics over time.
