Round-UpCelebrity Watch—December 2023: Assorted Watch Sightings From The East To The West
Skeleton dials, jewelled versions, dress watches, rainbow, world-time, and diver-inspired timepieces—such has been the vast appeal of wristwatches seen across continents, from the east to the west, this past month. As diverse as the watches were the people wearing them. Here’s a low-down

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is a famous friend of the Jacob & Co brand, known personally to founder Jacob Arabo. Their ties are so deep that there’s a line of watches from the American brand of Swiss-made watches called the CR7, which signifies the footballer’s initials and his jersey number. He is always—well, almost always—seen wearing Jacob & Co watches. These are not just watches from the CR7 line, but even from the more resplendent collections of the brand. The one he was seen wearing recently in the Middle East could be an all-black Epic X timepiece, but our guess is that it’s the all-black Caviar Tourbillon, which is paved with black spinels—the rare gemstones. This was when Ronaldo was recently on holiday in Alula, Saudi Arabia. He was in there with his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, who is a Spanish model and influencer.

Cristiano Ronaldo In The East
While still in Middle East earlier this month, Ronaldo was spotted at the ‘Day of Reckoning’ boxing event in Saudi Arabia. He was seated next to Connor McGregor, the Irish mixed martial artist and boxer, and he was wearing another jewelled timepiece. This one though was not a Jacob & Co watch. It was actually an Hublot—the Spirit of Big Bang in King gold, which is the Swiss brand’s proprietary red gold alloy. The tonneau-shaped Rainbow edition was paved with baguette-cut coloured gemstones across the dial and bezel.
Gerald Charles Maestro 8.0 Skeleton
Lucien Laviscount In The West
From the East to the West, this was British actor Lucien Laviscount in Paris, in the tail end of November actually, attending the ‘GQ Men of the year’ annual event. It was fitting for the actor to be attending this Paris event, not because he’s a star of the popular Netflix series, Emily in Paris, but mainly because he was being awarded GQ magazine’s ‘Most stylish man of the year’ award for 2023. Laviscount was seen wearing the Maestro 8.0 Skeleton timepiece from Gerald Charles. Set in the brand’s signature case structure, in rose gold, is a fully skeletonised movement, with detailing such as brushed finishing, bevelling of the bridges, as well as fine polishing on the gear wheels. Paired with this watch is a rubber strap with a hobnail pattern that mirrors the texture on the gold time-setting crown.
Panerai Luminor Marina
Randeep Hooda In The East
Also in the tail end of November, actor Randeep Hooda was in northeast India, getting married to his long-term partner, actress Lin Laishram. The couple wed in Imphal, Manipur—the state that Laishram belongs to—in a traditional ceremony. During all the events surrounding the wedding, Hooda was wearing a Panerai Luminor. The timepiece that pretty much complemented all his outfits was a steel edition, and it was most likely a time-only Luminor Marina with a brown leather strap.
Jacob & Co Epic SF24
Simu Liu In The West
Far from his birthplace in the East was Canadian actor Simu Liu, earlier in December, at the 2023 Unforgettable Gala, or the Asian American Awards, where accomplishments by Asian-American individuals are honoured, annually. The star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was the host of the ceremony, and he wore on his wrist a Jacob & Co Epic SF24. This travellers’ watch, which has all 24 main time zones from the east to the west, made a marked presence on the wrist of the portrayer of one of the Kens in the 2023 hit, Barbie. With the time zone display fashioned after the split-flap ‘SF’ indicators in airports and train stations, you can refer to the time in any of the main zones, with just a few clicks of the button on its side.

La Grande Classique de Longines
Rajinikanth In The East
Back again in the east was South India’s greatest movie star, Rajinikanth, recently sighted in public in casual attire, which was offset by a dress watch from Longines. The watch on his wrist was the La Grande Classique de Longines, a demure black timepiece, with diamond hour markers standing out against the clean black dial. This steel timepiece measures 35mm, and has single lugs flanking the case, which attach it to a black leather strap.
