May We Recommend
Emotions, individualism, and glorification of the past are a few core elements that constitute romanticism, the philosophical impulse that drives Arnold & Son’s many creations. These values, along with the technical genius of the maison’s craftspeople, are evident in their collections in abundance, quickly bringing to mind the Grandes Complication, Métiers d’Art, Luna Magna, and Perpetual Moon timepieces. While this spectacle of watchmaking on some days celebrates the moon, on other days it augments the mysticism of dragons and phoenixes, which on a given day entirely transforms truly into a rarity—a true beat. Part of the Instrument collection, the DSTB or ‘Dial Side True Beat’ is an aesthetic marvel with great rhythmic qualities. Available in red gold or platinum, each flanked by a hand-stitched blue alligator leather strap, the new DSTB flaunts its true-beat seconds mechanism on the dial side. Both limited editions, the new Arnold & Son DSTB watches are now more lean and vigorous, packing a refined design and a robust high-frequency self-winding movement.
Jumping Seconds With The New Arnold & Son DSTB 42
Arnold & Son reassert their deep-rooted connection to marine chronometers with the DSTB 42, presented at Geneva Watch Days 2023. With a true-beat complication, the seconds hand jumps from second to second, a feature also referred to as dead-beat seconds. Making significant changes to the design of the new DSTB models, the bridges are intricately open-worked and possess a three-dimensional quality, and are meticulously made from either red or white gold, depending on the DSTB 42 model.
The commanding presence of the true-beat seconds mechanism is elegantly counterbalanced by the offset hour dial presented in white opal. While the original model had a 44mm diameter and housed a 7.4mm thick calibre, providing a 45-hour power reserve, the 2023 iterations have nudges in all the right directions, enhancing both looks and performance.
They now draw power from the exclusive manufacture calibre A&S6203, which is 5.54mm thick and can store a 55-hour power reserve—facilitated by the winding rotor in 22-karat gold. For a more universal fit and feel on the wrist, the case size has also been reduced to 42mm in diameter with an overall thickness of 12.95mm.
The Limited-Edition DSTB 42
A limited edition of 88 pieces, the DSTB 42 Red Gold is set in a 5N gold case, which has been clubbed with a blue PVD-treated dial that brings out an elegant contrast.
On the other hand, the DSTB 42 Platinum, limited to 38 pieces, contrasts with its 950 platinum case paired with a dial that has been given a rose-gold PVD treatment, lending it a salmon hue. For both models, the dials undergo a sunray-brushing process before getting a subtle tint.
