Bianchet are on a roll this year. In early 2024, they introduced the Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT, featuring an intricate skeletonised dial and a handy dual-time function. The debut delivered six distinctive references, each powered by Bianchet’s own hand-wound skeletonised movement with a flying 60-second tourbillon. Housed in a tonneau-shaped case, the Sport GMT is a true delight—light, ergonomic, and highly shock-resistant, making it the perfect choice for globetrotters. They have now expanded their lineup with two new watches—the Hybrid Gold editions of the Flying Tourbillon Grande Date and the Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT. These exquisite timepieces are crafted from a combination of 18-karat gold, high-density carbon, and titanium powder. With their keen eye for detail, Bianchet have pushed the boundaries of horology to deliver a collection that is both technically advanced and visually stunning. The combination is at the same time pragmatic, given the preciousness of gold with the durability and lightness of carbon fibre. The Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Grande Date and Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT both feature 43mm cases that are finished and assembled by hand.
Gold Meet Carbon: The Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Grande Date And Sport GMT
The Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Grande Date and Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT are high-tech timepieces that also impress for their design aesthetic. These editions feature a gold bezel, crown, and caseback; all tastefully brushed and polished. The watchmakers have also incorporated their proprietary Titanium-Dust-High-Density-Carbon material into the case construction. This specialised carbon composite is made by compressing around 500 layers of carbon fibre, with titanium powder infused between every two layers. The gold crown is also equipped with a protective carbon guard for greater durability. Headlining the Hybrid Gold editions is the Flying Tourbillon Grande Date, a beautifully crafted tonneau-shaped timepiece that was honoured with the coveted International Temporis Award for Best Startup Watch in 2023.
The large date window of the Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Grande Date puts the complex calendar mechanism on full display, revealing the hand-finished details on each tiny component. The titanium bridges, which follow the curved construction based on the Fibonacci spiral, also showcase hand-bevelled edges. The next in line is the Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT, a visual treat for its 24-hour GMT dial that features a rotating Earth dome. Bianchet have finished and assembled movement and case parts manually, and even used a paintbrush to add the decorative touches. Even the application of lume on the hour markers is done by hand. Both Hybrid Gold editions are water-resistant up to 100m.
Movements And Straps
The Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Grande Date is powered by the proprietary manual-winding calibre with a one-minute tourbillon and big date complication, while the Hybrid Gold Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT finds its power in the proprietary manual-winding calibre with a one-minute tourbillon and GMT complication. Both engines operate at a frequency of 21,600vph and offer a 90-hour power reserve. Lastly, you get to choose between a natural vulcanised rubber strap in white or black, each paired with an 18-karat 3N solid yellow gold pin buckle, to wear the watch.
Whether it is the intricate mechanics, the bold aesthetics, or the use of state-of-the-art materials, Bianchet are on to something groundbreaking, something that takes luxury watchmaking to a whole new level.
