ReviewVisions In Blue: The Bovet Fleurier 19Thirty With Lacquer And Meteorite Dials
Three new Bovet 19Thirty models, featuring two lacquer dials and one in meteorite, create magic in blue with accents in ivory and steel
May We Recommend
The house of Bovet recently extended the longstanding 19Thirty line with three radiant blue dials. Two of them (19Thirty Ivory With Blue Guilloché and 19Thirty Teal Blue Guilloché) feature lacquer dials with cobweb-like repetitive pattern in alluring blue, while the third iteration 19Thirty Blue Meteorite alias Slice of Heaven, is etched from Gibeon meteorite, estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, and coated in deep blue PVD. This trinity of blue—as with previous 19Thirty iterations—displays the stylistic features of 1822 Bovet pocket watches, among other trademark features such as the Fleurier case, cabochon sapphire-topped crown with protective bow at 12 o’clock, dual sub-dials for power reserve indicator and small seconds, and open-worked caseback.
The Beauty Of Lacquer Dials
The dainty patterns, sub-dials and timekeeping elements of the new Bovet 19Thirty iterations are encompassed within lightweight 42mm cases: the ivory model is juxtaposed with red gold; the teal model with stainless steel and the meteorite model with sandblasted grade-5 titanium.
Both 19Thirty iterations showcase lacquer dials featuring guilloché patterns in deep, cobalt blue. One way of telling these two iterations apart are the dial portions graced with this spirograph-like curvaceous pattern. In the ivory model, the peripheral areas around the home time and small seconds creamish sub-dials are guilloché patterned. The arrangement is opposite for the teal model; the sub-dials are guilloched, while the stainless steel outer dial features delicate Fleurisanne engraving.
Adding another layer of contrast are the Roman hour markers on the home time and Arabic numerals on the small seconds sub-dials. The Ivory model showcases these timekeeping elements in dark blue, while the teal model in silver hues. Flanking either side of the sub-dials are two ‘ears’, semi-circular dials for the power reserve indicator on the right, and a flower-shaped outline enclosed on the left pays ode to the lotus; Bovet’s symbol.
A Class Apart
In contrast to the guilloché models, the Blue Meteorite model has unique powdery blue surface, showcasing the naturally abstract Widmanstätten pattern, which emerges after the meteorite is sculpted using nitric acid. Moreover, after the Namibian government recently declared this interplanetary substance discovered in its jurisdiction as national treasure, established monopoly over it, the value of this 19Thirty Bovet model shot up instantly. For a clean, legible contrast, all dial markings, from the hour markers to the outlines of sub-dials, are in white.
All three models are powered by the manual winding calibre 15BM04 that beats at 21,600vph, offering up to seven-day power reserve from just one barrel. The hairspring and regulating organ of the openworked caseback. All three iterations come attached to full skin alligator straps secured with stainless steel pin buckles.
