It was ‘café racing’, a subculture within the motorcycle community, which brought the boys and girls to the streets of the United Kingdom during the 1960s with their lightweight motorcycles. Donning leather jackets, heavy boots, gloves, and patches and pins, these young folks rode their motorcycles from café to café. To capture this thrilling trend, Swiss watchmaker Willy Breitling imagined the Top Time chronograph, a watch inspired by motor racing and café-racer culture. The chrono watch became a hot favourite among motorbike enthusiasts who were drawn to the watch’s bold proportions and graphic dial. What started back then still moves on, be it Breitling’s collaboration with Australian motorcycle and surf outfitter Deus Ex Machina or the watchmaker’s partnership with British motorcycle brand Triumph that already have several ambitious motorcycles in the Indian market. Focusing on this partnership brings us to the latest collaborative timepiece—the Breitling x Triumph Motorcycles Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch, fusing titanium and 18-karat red gold for the case that packs an anthracite dial.
Triumph And Breitling Shift Gears Together: The Chronomat B01 42 Triumph
Gear up for the ultimate thrill ride as Breitling and Triumph Motorcycles join hands to present their third collaborative timepiece—the Chronomat B01 42 Triumph. A head-turner for sure, the watch is a joy to wear given its featherlight titanium construction that lends it superior strength. Packed in a 42mm titanium and 18-karat red gold case, the chronograph watch is one of the most progressive models in Breitling’s repertoire.
Various elements come together to make the new Chronomat even more adventurous; be it the small Triumph shield logo on the central chronograph hand counterweight, the engraved caseback that says ‘Triumph Edition’, or the perforated calfskin leather strap in brown that matches the limited-edition Speed Triple 1200 RR bike, which Triumph Motorcycles have introduced to rev alongside the Chronomat B01 42 Triumph.
Superior Gear Like Triumph Motorcycles
The Chronomat B01 Triumph in titanium and red gold is part of a larger design philosophy that follows the dark shades of the motorcycle. On the other hand, the golden details of the watch pay homage to the Speed Triple 1200 RR’s front forks. The contrasting black sub-dials add to the monochromatic appeal of the watch, where running seconds are contained within the sub-dial at nine o’clock, and the elapsed time chronograph counters at three o’clock and six o’clock; the latter also features a date window.
Keeping some things exclusive, only the owners of the 270 Speed Triple RR motorcycle are privy to purchase the Chronomat B01 42 Triumph owners’ edition—an ultra-exclusive watch featuring a carbon dial that matches the design aesthetic of the motorcycle, along with the motorcycle’s number engraved on the caseback, making it a one-of-a-kind ride for the motorcycle owners.
Driven by the Breitling 01 manufacture movement, the Chronomat B01 42 Triumph achieves around a 70-hour power reserve. The COSC-certified movement has a balance frequency of 4Hz with various chronograph features, including the measurement of down to 1/4th of a second.
Since its debut in 1984, the Chronomat has exemplified Breitling’s commitment to crafting one of the most versatile sports watches available today. Celebrated by adventurers who continuously test the boundaries of human endurance across air, land, and sea, these timepieces offer a perfect blend of style and outstanding performance.
