The military pocket watch was a vital instrument that allowed soldiers to coordinate manoeuvres, time operations, and synchronise battlefield activities during early 20th-century warfare. Robustness, accuracy, and timekeeping at a glance were some of the salient features of 20th-century military pocket watches, and Bremont are motivated to capture the essence of these vintage timetellers. At Watches and Wonders 2024 in Geneva, Bremont added a series of field watches; a type of wristwatch created for outdoor and military use. From the ruggedness of the steel case to the watch’s dial with oversized numerals cut in full-block Super-LumiNova for increased legibility in low light conditions, the new Terra Nova line offers a visual and functional language of the field watches reinterpreted for the 21st century. Bremont’s Terra Nova collection offers a range of case sizes; from a 38mm two-hander to a 40.5mm watch with date and compass bezel and a 42.5mm steel chronograph. The Terra Nova watches are designed for challenging conditions and to resonate with explorers, adventurers, and the military alike.
The Curious Case Of Sizes: The New Bremont Terra Nova
Renowned for their aviation-focused watches, Bremont have entered the world of field watches with four new Terra Nova timepieces. The collection is available in three case sizes. The smallest case size is a 38mm two-hander. Next, is a 40.5mm iteration with a date function or with a rotating compass bezel, power reserve indicator, date, and small seconds. Finally, a 42.5mm steel chronograph completes the collection.
Bremont have been loyal to the durable, corrosion-resistant 904L stainless steel for the cases. These steel cases are cushion-shaped, with a slim profile and tapered lugs, evoking the design philosophy of military field watches. A globe emblem appears on the caseback and the linear gradient dials show faceted pencil hands and a railroad minute track, and together present modern aesthetics with deep roots in vintage field watches.
Small And Simple: The Terra Nova 38
The Terra Nova 38 is a simple, time-only watch featuring a slim 38mm steel case with 10.7mm thickness, which cradles either a white or an anthracite dial. The steel watch can be paired with a brown leather strap or a steel bracelet, and with its small profile, the watch sits comfortably on the wrist.
The compact design renders the iteration water-resistant up to 100m. Powered by the modified calibre 11½” BE-36AL, the Terra Nova 38 beats at 4Hz frequency and offers 38-hour power reserve.
Very Versatile: The Terra Nova 40.5 Date
The Terra Nova 40.5 Date sits inside a 40.5mm case, large enough for a great wrist presence but still relatively compact, making it suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes and styles. The steel case is 11.11mm thick and pairable with multiple strap materials; a brown leather strap, steel bracelet, or NATO straps. Bremont offer two dial options for the Terra Nova 40.5 Date—an anthracite and black metal dial or a green metal dial.
Water-resistant up to 100m, the case houses the modified calibre 11 ½” BE-36AE, which operates at a frequency of 4Hz and delivers a 38-hour power reserve.
Honouring Heritage: The Terra Nova 40.5 Turning Bezel Power Reserve
The Terra Nova 40.5 Turning Bezel Power Reserve blends classic field watch aesthetics with modern functionality. Its bi-directional compass bezel on the turning bezel and power reserve indicator with cardinal markings are a few of its bold design features. A small seconds sub-dial at nine o’clock is also a direct nod to the heritage of vintage field watches.
The watch comes with a blue metal dial or an anthracite and black metal dial. Water-resistant up to 100m, the 11.91mm-thick case can be flanked by a steel bracelet, brown leather strap, black nubuck leather strap, or NATO-style fabric straps. Powering the watch is the modified calibre 11 ½” BE-79AL, operating at 4Hz frequency and promising a 38-hour power reserve.
Chrono Charisma: The Terra Nova 42.5 Chronograph
A two-counter chronograph, the Terra Nova 42.5mm Chronograph comes equipped with a polished ceramic bi-directional compass bezel. The watch has an anthracite metal dial that sits snug inside the 42.5mm case with 14.8mm thickness. This chronograph timepiece receives an uncluttered watch face showing two sub-dials for tracking elapsed time and a date window at six o’clock.
Water-resistant up to 100m, the case can be paired with a steel bracelet, a brown leather strap, or a fabric NATO strap. The modified calibre 13 ¼” BE-50AV powers the watch, beating at a frequency of 4Hz and offering a 56-hour power reserve.
All Terra Nova watches feature an anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The steel case of the collection is finished with a combination of brushed and polished texturing for more character. Bremont’s Terra Nova collection offers iconic, expertly engineered tool watches that masterfully combine style and function.
