Round-UpCelebrity Watch—May 2023: The Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival is often considered to be the glitziest of the major film-screening events of the year. In 2023, there were the usual suspects among the big watch brands making appearances on the red carpet. Here are just a few of them

Breitling Aerospace Avantage E79362
Harrison Ford In Cannes
The Hollywood veteran, who is best known for his Indiana Jones, was in Cannes to present his fifth and final outing as the adventure hero in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Ford was honoured with a standing ovation when the movie was screened. At one of his appearances, the actor was seen in casual attire, and very aptly paired it with a Breitling timepiece that represents the brand’s aviation heritage. A watch no longer in production, this was an Aerospace Avantage, with analogue central time, and various other complications, such as a chronograph and perpetual calendar presented primarily via its digital displays.
Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso
Esha Gupta in Cannes
Model Esha Gupta has become a friend of Hublot, making one public appearance after another, sporting watches from the Swiss brand’s portfolio. In Cannes, Gupta was seen wearing the very recently launched Big Bang Unico Nespresso. Made in partnership with premium coffee makers Nespresso, this green watch looks like any other Big Bang in ceramic or treated metal. However, the key feature of this model is that it’s in aluminium, made in part from discarded aluminium Nespresso coffee pods. Even coffee grounds have been used partly in the making of the strap. This event that Gupta was seen at was also co-hosted by the coffee brand.
Zenith Defy Revival A3691
Will Ferrell in Cannes
Comedian, actor and producer Will Ferrell made a striking appearance on a Cannes red carpet, with his wife, Viveca Paulin. Ferrell was in classic black-tie attire, and he paired it with a contrasting vintage-inspired sporty timepiece from Zenith. This red-dial Defy is an automatic that is a revival of a historic watch from Zenith’s archives. Since 2019, the LVMH watch brand have been reviving some of their classic models—a step that started with marking the 50th anniversary of them having created the first ever integrated, high-frequency, automatic chronograph calibre, the El Primero. This watch is not a chronograph, but it has a few staples that were seen in some of those classic Zenith chronographs of the 60s and 70s, including the ladder-style bracelet, which pairs excellently with the edgy case structure.
Spirit of Big Bang One Click Steel White Diamonds
Frida Aasen in Cannes
Norwegian supermodel Frida Aasen turned out looking stunning at the amfAR gala in Cannes on May 25. The former Victoria’s Secret model attended the annual gala, which benefits the Foundation for AIDS Research, wearing a stark black-and-white number. To pair with that, Aasen picked some white-diamond jewellery, and maintained the colour palette with a white Hublot. It was from the Spirit of Big Bang series, which is Hublot’s line of tonneau-shaped watches. The ‘one click’ signifies the clickers that release the strap from the case in an instant for easy interchanging between strap options. This here is a 32mm time-and-date edition in steel, with white diamonds on the bezel.
