Round-UpCelebrity Watch—March 2023: ‘O’ For Oscars; ‘O’ For Omega
Dominating Oscar night, Omega was seen on the wrists of many, including two of the most prominent Academy Award winners of the year. With a smattering of Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, TAG Heuer, Panerai, here’s our Omega-forward Oscar special ‘celebrity watch’ for March 2023
May We Recommend
Hollywood’s biggest night, the Oscars are always a hot platform for horological sightings. We know that Rolex is a partner of the Academy and the event—for several years now—and they also have a Rolex green room, backstage at the Dolby Theatre every year. Obviously Rolexes are seen in the mix of watches spotted during the Academy Awards. And there’s often a healthy mix of Cartier and others as well. One of the most prominent watches seen this year was Richard Mille—a custom bejewelled white RM07-02 on the wrist of Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), who happens to be a long-time friend of the brand. And while we saw a timepiece or two from the likes of Jaeger-LeCoultre, TAG Heuer and Panerai, the one brand that was seen all over the red carpet—or champagne carpet rather—was Omega. This was true not just for the main awards show, but also at the Vanity Fair after-party, which is the biggest post-Oscars event every year. Here’s a quick look at the most noteworthy watch sightings of the month—from the 95th Oscars.
Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope
Brendan Fraser
A new Oscar winner for his leading role in The Whale, Brendan Fraser wore a true tool watch—the Speedmaster Chronoscope, with tachymeter, telemeter and pulsometer scales that are meant to work in tandem with the chronograph. Paired with Fraser’s black-tie look, this is a fine example of how sport/tool watches have transcended their literal purpose to now also suit dressier requirements.
Omega Constellation Globemaster
Ke Huy Quan
Winner for his supporting role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan went with a dressier option—the Constellation Globemaster. This co-axial Master Chronometer was seen on the Oscar winner’s wrist with a leather strap.
Omega Constellation Globemaster
Barry Keoghan
Another Globemaster was seen on the wrist of Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin). The Irish actor paired it with his grey outfit—which was relatively more sober than his previous ensembles this awards season.
Omega Constellation Globemaster
Channing Tatum
Magic Mike star Channing Tatum was spotted at the Vanity Fair party, wearing a bolder, more vivid Globemaster. The blue watch is one with steel, paired with Sedna gold—Omega’s proprietary 18-karat red gold alloy.
Omega Museum piece
Nicole Kidman
Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours, 2002), who has been a long-time ambassador for the Bienne-based brand, has often been seen wearing vintage watches from Omega’s archives. This time, she wore an Omega Museum piece in 18-karat white gold, with a jewels on the decorative lugs.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Ariana De Bose
Oscar winner for last year’s West Side Story, Ariana De Bose was seen wearing a far more contemporary dress watch from Omega—the De Ville Prestige. The mother-of-pearl dial features gold-coloured elements, while the watch comes encased in stainless steel.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Troy Kotsur
Another Oscar winner from last year, Troy Kotsur (CODA) went for a two-tone Prestige in steel and Sedna gold. This one features an elegant, domed dial in grey, with a leather strap to match.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Harry Shum Jr
Bringing the Prestige to the Oscars was also Harry Shum Jr. The Everything Everywhere All at Once actor chose a blue model to offset his white-and-black asymmetrical jacket.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Patrick Schwarzenegger
Also in blue was actor and model Patrick Schwarzenegger’s De Ville Prestige. This one features a powdery blue dial, with a power reserve display and small seconds.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Diego Calva
Star of the Oscar-nominated Babylon, Diego Calva was another one sporting a De Ville Prestige at the Vanity Fair party. The Mexican actor wore a steel edition with the domed dial and leather strap bathed in burgundy.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Adam DiMarco
The star of the popular HBO series, White Lotus: Sicily was seen at the Vanity Fair party in fairly casual attire, including an oversized jacket. He offset his look with a dressy De Ville Prestige in blue and steel.
Omega De Ville Trésor
Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield’s awards season appearances wearing Omega continued at the Oscars. Going from the awards show to the Vanity Fair event, Garfield traded in his black-and-white ensemble for a coral jacket.
With both looks, however, he sported the De Ville Trésor in Sedna gold, with a silvery opaline dial featuring a fine clous de Paris pattern.
Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra
Matt Bomer
Sedna gold and steel was the combination chosen by actor Matt Bomer, at the Vanity Fair after-party. The former White Collar actor wore the two-tone Seamaster Aqua Terra with a blue dial and a blue leather strap.
Panerai Luminor Due Luna
Hong Chau
Nominated for her supporting role in the Oscar-winning film, The Whale, Hong Chau made an elegant appearance in blush tones. And to pair with this look, she chose a Panerai Luminor Due Luna—the brand’s first moon phase watch—in pastel hues.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface
Lenny Kravitz
Celebrated singer Lenny Kravitz, who performed at the Oscars, during the ‘in memoriam’ segment, was in an all-black ensemble and paired it with a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. It was reportedly a Duoface edition, featuring a secondary ‘travel time’ display on the reverse side, with a day/night, 24-hour indicator.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Presenting an award alongside Emily Blunt, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was seen wearing one of the more recent Aquaracer watches from TAG Heuer—a 200m Professional edition, from the collection that was revamped in 2021.
IWC Portugieser Perpetual Chronograph
Questlove
One of last year’s Oscar winners for documentary feature—for Summer of Soul—Questlove showed up this year wearing all-black. The musician contrasted his look with an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar in gold. This is one of many complicated watches from IWC featuring their signature complication.
