SpotlightDay Trip Around The Sun: Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night And Day
The latest Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night & Day iterations is less about sartorial tastes, but more about the two 12-hour periods in a 24-hour cycle
May We Recommend
Chronoswiss have extended their Flying Regulator collection by issuing two more Night & Day versions made resplendent with distinct celestial imagery. Distinguished by their dial colour, the two titles hint at specific time periods; the white-dialled Whiteout Wonder encompasses the day, while the dark blue dialled Midnight Elegance symbolises the night (Interesting to note that the brand opted for an evening-ish blue, not pitch black; the right nocturnal shade). Limited to 50-piece each, both timepieces feature usual Chronoswiss signatures such as guilloche dial, trinity of sub-dials, onion crown, curved bezel with partial knurling.
Flying Regulator: Traits
White and blue dials are common as they complement most attires and occasions. Take the Night & Day versions, for instance. Encapsulating the night is the Midnight Elegance version with dominant dark blue guilloche dial and sub-dial screws. The dial of White Wonder is an immaculate white oasis, accentuated by dark blue slivers on the hands, screws and the retrograde calendar pointer.
The latest Night & Day duo, however, is less about sartorial tastes, but more about the two 12-hour periods in a 24-hour cycle. The most important dial feature then is the day/night indicator with Super-LumiNova applied yellow laser-cut stars at nine o’clock; sandwiched between the vertically stacked sub-dials—central minutes at 12 o’clock and small seconds at six o’clock. A slim aperture depicting the retrograde date calendar with pointer is located at three o’clock. Pointing to the right time and date are Feuille-shaped rhodium-plated hands inlaid with Super-LumiNova.
The timekeeping counters sit at one level, above the dial surface covered in guilloche. These handcrafted dials, produced at the brand’s Lucerne atelier, are enclosed within 41mm cases made from 16-part stainless steel, polished and satin-finished. The crowning glory is the curved bezel with partial knurling, sealed by antireflective sapphire crystal, screw down caseback, onion crown—factors contributing upto 100m water resistance. To secure the alligator leather straps in place, the strap holders of the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night & Day iterations are screwed down with the patented Autobloc system.
Inner Workings
Visible through the sapphire caseback are parts of the Chronoswiss Calibre C. 296 automatic movement equipped with Incabloc shock protection. This includes the three-legged Balance Glucydur, Balance spring Nivarox 1, a Côtes de Genève patterned skeletal rotor with ball bearing, perlage covered bridges and plates, polished pallet lever, escape wheel and screws. The in-house movement beats at 28,800vph and offers upto 42-hour power reserve.
Silent night, bright sun shiny day or winterlude, the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night & Day iterations go beyond the seasonal glow and follow the moon.
