SpotlightDoxa’s Sub 300β Sharkhunter: Diving Into The Abyss And Beyond

Raising the current at Geneva Watch Days 2023 is the all-new Doxa Sub 300β Sharkhunter—considered to be the first ‘mainstream’ professional diving timepiece. Re-sculpting their signature Sub diver’s watch silhouette influenced by US Navy diving gear, the new 300β Sharkhunter is capable of reaching depths of nearly 1000ft ensuring safe, no-stop returns to the surface

The Sub isn’t your regular diver’s watch—it’s better. Right since the 60s, the Sub was a diver’s staple tool, which evolved into a daily beater for the urban individual. The Sub is, and always has been, a statement of duality where rugged undersea utility met urban style. In 2020, the Sub 300 was reintroduced—giving its dials refreshing, colourful new alter-egos of orange, turquoise, green, and more tones, beating away from monochromatic paths and adding a splash of vibrancy on the wrists of undersea explorers. Fresh out of the oven for 2023, with a bulbous black ceramic case and 18-karat 3N gold bezel and crown, the SUB 300β Sharkhunter certainly knows how to bite. It perfectly embodies the legacy of Doxa’s ‘aqua-venturing’ spirit, tracing its roots back to the original Sub concept of 1967.

The ‘β’ Factor Of The Sub 300β Sharkhunter

β or ‘beta’ stands for going beyond the conventional. While being an efficient diving watch is the Sub 300β Sharkhunter’s alpha role, being a crisp contemporary urban watch is its beta. It’s designed to adapt, be dynamic, and be a graceful apex, much like the shark it’s named after. We see this in form and function. The Sub 300β Sharkhunter has achieved a slimmer design at just 11.95mm and a lower bezel height—by 0.5mm, as compared with the Sub 300T. With a width of 42.5mm, the Sub 300β Sharkhunter also houses a pressure-resistant titanium container which protects the movement inside.

The Subβ Sharkhunter’s Aqua-venturer Zeitgeist

Let’s talk diver’s tech. The all-new and patented Doxa unidirectional rotating bezel, which is crafted out of 18-karat 3N gold offers dual indication of dive time. It displays dive time in minutes and depth in feet, allowing for the freedom of uninterrupted dives up to depths of 300m thanks to its water resistance rating of 30 ATM. Bonus: Even at those depths, the antireflective sapphire crystal glass will not get scratched even if you brush the tool against some coral underwater.
