ReviewPresenting The High-Ranking Chief Chronograph Watches From Favre Leuba
Quite a departure from the far sportier and adventure-inclined Raider watches that Favre Leuba have been known for lately, the Chief collection is on the dressier side, but apt for daily-wear as well. This is true especially for the Chief Chronograph
May We Recommend
Favre Leuba is the second oldest Swiss watchmaking brand, but they are second to none in several ways, such as their complication innovation and distinctiveness in design. On one hand, the brand offer bold and sporty watches from the Raider collection with unique aesthetics, such as the Raider Harpoon with an unconventional time display and the Bivouac 9000, which is a legend in itself. On the other hand there is the Chief collection with a more urban design, where pared-down sophistication is critical. The Chief Chronograph is the perfect example.
Structurally Sound: The Chief Chronograph
For people who prefer some heft on their wrist while wearing a watch, the 43mm steel case has got some weight to it. The side profile has a unique shape, which forms a bridge from the top of the case, leading to the lugs on both sides. Meanwhile, the lugs are nicely curved and allow for a snug fit on the wrist even at that size. Adding to the premium quality of the timepiece is the combination of brushed and polished surfaces on the case, lugs and the pin buckle. While, overall, the aesthetics of the Chief Chronograph are urban and have a contemporary execution, one still can trace the inspiration behind certain elements—such as the indices and the hands—back to the brand’s popular watches in the 1950s, including the Chief Date.
The Chief Chrongraph And Its Wide Appeal
On the face of the watch, there is a bi-compax layout on the dial, featuring luminous hands and hour markers, which keeps the overall watch face functional and minimalistic. The sub-dial at nine o’clock is for the small seconds and at three is the 30-minute chronograph counter.
This line includes two sets of models, each of which has a completely different appeal. A few models feature a refined sunray finish on a grey or black dial, paired with a leather strap or a three-link steel bracelet. This one makes for a great choice for formalwear.
On the other hand, a capsule series of four models—burgundy, black, green and a panda—boast a rather vintage vibe with their contrasting dials and matching suede straps with easy-change functionality. What makes it even more special is that it’s topped with an anti-reflective domed sapphire crystal glass that sits on the multifaceted bezel and enhances the overall appeal of the watch. The bezel is also complete with a combination of brushed and polished finishes, and comes in either steel or 18-karat rose gold.
Date Correctness And Calibre Capability
On the right-hand side of the case, the chronograph pushers feature a checkered pattern, while the crown has the brand’s identifiable hourglass monogram. At 10 o’clock, on the other side of the Chief Chronograph is a corrector for adjusting the date, to be used with a date-corrector pin.
Equipped with a screw-down crown, and a closed, engraved caseback, the watch is water-resistant up to 100m. Set within the case is the reliable and time-tested ETA 7753 automatic chronograph movement that beats at a frequency of 28,800vph, offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours when completely wound.
This power reserve, the overall functionality and the clean display make this a good daily-wear piece. Even if you’re looking for a classy dress watch to wear when you suit-up, the Chief Chronograph can transcend being an easygoing watch to match your laid-back vibe. Yes, the Chief Chronograph has a lot offer to individuals leading an active urban life.
