After a gap of nearly 40 years, Favre-Leuba, the world’s second oldest Swiss brand, returned to India on the 5th of December, 2016. The Swiss watchmaker announced their global relaunch at The Leela Hotel, Gurgaon, over a private dinner and whiskey tasting. Favre Leuba also announced that they would be launching exclusively in India with Ethos Watch Boutiques and would later introduce the brand at Helios (the retail arm of Titan Co. Ltd).
Present at the launch were the CEO of Favre Leuba – Mr. Thomas Morf, Managing Director of The Titan Group – Mr. Bhaskar Bhat, and CEO of Ethos Watch Boutiques, Mr. Yashovardhan Saboo.
The relaunch in India was significant, considering the brand was also the first ever Swiss watch company to set up a subsidiary in India back in the 1860s. But they had to leave the country because of prevailing economic conditions in the 1960’s which weren’t suitable for luxury products.
“The idea was not to rush things. When you rush, you tend to forget minute details,” said Mr. Morf in an interview at the launch event. “We had only one chance and we had to do it right. That’s why it took time.”
The brand unveiled 21 new watches that are available immediately at select Ethos Watch Boutique outlets across India. The watches include re-interpretations of some of their iconic models like the Deep Blue and Sea Sky, and also their flagship watch – the Raider Harpoon. “Ethos is the best luxury watch retailer in the country. Our objective was to launch this brand with those who know luxury considering it has so much heritage attached to it.” said Mr. Bhaskar Bhat, President of Favre Leuba AG, and Managing Director of Titan.
The formal launch was followed by an eventful evening of whiskey pairing over a sumptuous five-course meal, which was attended by leading media dignitaries and the who’s who of the Indian watch industry.
