ReviewDare To Disrupt With The Heritage Corum Lab 01
The art of watchmaking has always been about following traditions—from craftsmanship to mechanics. The Heritage Corum Lab 01, with its revolutionary design, is here to challenge that very norm

One look at the name of this watch, and you’d think that the words ‘heritage’ and ‘lab’ don’t work well together. While one is futuristic, always looking forward and innovating, the other one is stuck in old, forgotten ways. Most watchmakers are busy tinkering around with what’s inside and creating tribute after tribute of watches that were once successful, but hark back to an era that is long gone. For the wearer, however, most watches have begun to mirror each other—especially on the outside. And this is where Corum has stepped in—to rebel against a tradition that sometimes inadvertently stifles innovation.
A watch that ties two worlds neatly together, the Heritage Corum Lab 01 isn’t a juxtaposition at all. In fact, it’s simply a timepiece that is both avant-garde and carries on its shoulders an incredible legacy that is reflected in its marvellous inner workings.
The Movement Takes Centre-Stage
In most watches in the market today, the dial takes precedence. From the use of vivid colours that contrast with the strap and the various finishes, to the use of eye-catching materials and textures, watchmakers try to ensure that the dial stands out. However, here, like in the watches of yore, the mechanics of the movement supersede.
The C014 skeleton movement is above all else, and is proudly exhibited through the open-worked, barrel-shaped case. What’s interesting here is that calibre is shaped precisely for the dial’s dimensions rather than the one-size-fits-all approach that is used in most other watches where the round movements are simply placed in cases of different shapes.
Decorated with a spiral design, the micro-rotor of the movement can be seen in the top right corner, while the mainspring is visible just beneath it. The spiral design makes its spinning that much more obvious, ensuring that all eyes will be on your wrist when you don this beautiful timepiece. Designed by Le Cercle des Horlogers, the movement beats at 4Hz and gives the wearer an impressive power reserve of 50 hours.
A Groundbreaking Design
The design of the Heritage Corum Lab 01 is extremely different from the other offerings by the brand, which is most known for its Golden Bridge and Admiral lines. Here, the unique case that sports soft curves, which is 39.85mm by 55mm, is crafted with grade-5 titanium, with black DLC treatment, sides are covered in rubber, making the watch incredibly durable. A unique aspect of the watch face is that the crown (also inlayed with rubber for better grip) is placed at the six o’clock position, so it does not distract from the dial. In plain anthracite grey with white, red or green accents, the watch looks like a futuristic piece of technology strapped to your wrist. The space-age look of this watch is complemented by the black rubber strap emblazoned with the signature key emblem of Corum.
A bridge between two worlds hitherto considered extremely divergent, the Heritage Corum Lab 01 is breaking traditions and, at the same, keeping them too. For true connoisseurs of what makes a watch tick, the Heritage Corum Lab 01 is the answer.
