May We Recommend
There is hardly any other collection of watches that is as timeless as the Reverso from Jaeger-LeCoultre is. In 2018, the brand pays a fitting tribute to this timeless icon by honouring the craftsmanship and artistry that belies the world of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches and are almost akin to fine pieces of arts. Born in 1931 as a sports watch, its characteristic swivelling reversible case—designed specifically to be worn by mounted polo players during matches—is what made Reverso a true icon. Over the years, the brand has recreated the classic through various avatars of the Reverso that highlight the brand’s expertise in incorporating exclusive handcrafted works.
The Equestrian Essence Of The Reverso
The latest timepiece to pay tribute to the sport of polo is a new version of the Reverso Tribute Duoface, which sports an exquisite Cordovan leather strap, handmade by Casa Fagliano, the Argentinian artisans behind some of the world’s finest equestrian boots. Legendary, family-owned boot-makers—established in 1892 and located in Hurlingham, Argentina—Casa Fagliano is patronised by polo enthusiasts the world over. The partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Fagliano is a result of a shared passion for expert craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, and the pursuit of perfection.
A Rewarding Partnership
From the keepers of the fine arts of watchmaking and handiwork, this partnership is an ode to Casa Fagliano’s outstanding, traditional leather craftsmanship. This new Reverso Tribute Duoface is limited to just 100 pieces, and is available exclusively at Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques. The vintage-style watch carries on the tradition of the Reverso Tribute Duoface collection, introduced during the 185th anniversary in 2016. As the name suggests, the watch features two independent dials, each displaying different time zones of your choosing, set in a case measuring 49.4mm by 29.9mm. Perfectly complemented by the warm-toned pink gold case, the pièce de résistance two-tone cordovan leather strap is specially designed and handcrafted for each piece by the leather artisans. The two-tone strap impeccably blends a light brown shade for the main strap with a darker brown shade on the turned-over flap attached to the case lugs, and features a tone-on-tone overstitching. What makes each handcrafted strap extraordinary is its own unique patina and finishes lent by a painstaking process.
Finishing With Finesse
Bearing the hallmarks of the classic Reverso design, the two contrasting dials are both equally refined, as each displays a different time zone. The dressy front dial features a slate grey sunray finish, hand-applied hour markers that echo its Dauphine hands, and a small seconds sub-dial at six o’clock. The dial on the reverse of the case includes a day/night indicator seamlessly set against a silvered dial, brought to life by the juxtaposition of a Clous de Paris guilloché and opaline finishes. The day/night indicator adds character to the classic Art Deco design on this fascinating watch. At the heart of this watch is the manual-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 854/2, which runs at 21,600vph, and offers a power reserve of 42 hours.
With the limited edition number ‘…of 100’ engraved on its back, the exclusivity of this timepiece definitely warrants a spot for it among your collector’s editions.
