Two new PVD versions of the Aikon are the latest editions in the collection, continuing the recent barrage of additions to the brand’s most well-known collection

Of late, it seems as though the watch designers at Maurice Lacroix have truly taken the canvas of the Aikon and given it makeover after makeover. What makes the new launches so intriguing is that not every launch is aimed at pleasing the masses; each watch is quite clearly built for a certain kind of person. Perhaps that’s also the case with the two new PVD versions of the Aikon that the brand has just released, both limited editions of 888. As the name suggests, each iteration uses PVD to give the watch a metallic sheen. Each watch features the iconic design elements synonymous with the collection while still delivering a contemporary look. Let’s unravel the Aikon PVD editions.
Maurice Lacroix’s Aikon PVD Watches: The Latest In The Signature Collection
The watch is launched in two editions, with one coined the midnight blue, available in a 39mm stainless steel case, and the other the gunmetal grey, available in a 42mm stainless steel case. Thanks to their PVD coating, the watches exhibit a certain sheen, depending on the angle of the light. Both watches feature the iconic clous de Paris pattern, while the gunmetal grey features a colour-coordinated fumé dial. The larger watch of the two adopts a lighter dial tone in the centre and assumes a darker shade near the periphery, which may seem like a small detail while you’re reading it, but it makes a world of difference once the watch is on your wrist.
The new watches forego the date display at three to focus more on a minimalistic and simplistic approach to timekeeping. The hands on the midnight blue stand out a bit more than those on its grey counterpart, which features hands coloured similar to the dial, except for, of course, the Super-LumiNova inserts.
The Growing Legacy Of The Aikon With New Aikon PVD
With new colours for the Aikon automatic, iterations of the sustainable and environmentally friendly #Tide Aikon versions—such as the Camo and the Benzilla timepieces—or the urban-architecture-inspired Skeleton Tribe, the Aikon collection has seen quite a makeover in recent years.
In a nutshell, that defines the creative spirit of the Swiss brand. While some might let the success and popularity of a certain collection speak for themselves and shyly approach any revamps of the design, Maurice Lacroix have boldly decided to let loose with the collection and come out with multiple iterations, all of which fulfil their own purpose.
Launched in 2016, the Aikon was essentially a revisiting of the Calypso collection, upon which a few finishing touches were implemented. Now, with the Aikon PVD, the brand continue to evolve their creative spirit, offering a contemporary twist to urban luxury.
The Finishing Touches Of The Maurice Lacroix Aikon PVD
Both new watches are powered by the automatic ML 115 calibre—a movement that affords the watch around 38 hours of power reserve. The exhibition caseback offers you a sight of the movement, which gives you a peek at the perlage and colimaçon decorations.
An exhibition caseback affords sight of the automatic ML115 calibre, embellished with perlage and colimaçon. The watch is presented on a matching M-branded rubber strap. Consistent with all AIKON models, the AIKON PVD is equipped with the Maurice Lacroix Easy Strap Exchange system, providing a simple means of switching one strap for another without the need for tools. 200 metres of water resistance acts as the final cherry on top, providing as much practicality as it does panache.
The latest watches by the Swiss watchmakers do what the recent new Aikons have been consistently doing: pushing the boundaries of what’s possible within the recognisable silhouette of the collection without losing its essence. Both versions, we predict, will do quite well at that.
