Oris have been crafting mechanical watches in the Swiss village of Hölstein since 1904. As an independent company, they’ve been able to follow a trajectory that’s in sync with their beliefs and watchmaking ethos—sustainability being one of the major key areas. One of their most esteemed lines today is the Aquis Date, which is part of their Aquis Collection—launched in 2011. And ever since, the timekeepers in this family have firmly established their reputation as being one of the finest dive watches on the market, offering an impressive water-resistance of at least 300m; new versions being launched in a timely fashion, so as to reach out to a wider audience who are looking for affordable, reliable, and durable wristwatches.
The brand have recently introduced a new version of the Aquis model, replete with a new case size measuring 45.5mm. The latest Aquis Small Second Date model, as the name suggests, highlights the date function, showcased on a gorgeous deep-blue dial, which is topped by a unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert—also in the same hue.
Unlike its predecessors, the timepiece now offers a water-resistance of 500m—a marked upgrade, necessary for the dive watches of today. The rectangular date window is now positioned at three o’clock instead of six o’clock, and a small-seconds counter has also been incorporated—neatly placed at the nine o’clock position, featuring a Super-LumiNova coated hand that indicates the watch is running, even in low light conditions—an essential facet of a diver’s watch. Otherwise, it carries the same dependable features that professionals have come to expect of the Aquis Date, which includes a screw-down crown with protection, among others.
This timekeeper is driven by the in-house Calibre 743, containing 26 jewels, equipped with a frequency of 28,800vph to supply a power reserve of at least 41 hours, and is presented on either a metal bracelet or a matching blue rubber strap equipped with the Oris patented extendable security folding clasp.
