In October last year, Panerai launched two new versions of the Luminor Quaranta BiTempo timepieces—40mm stainless-steel models in dial options of black or white. These well-proportioned watches are characterised by the brand’s signature sandwich dial and crown-protection bridge and also have the advantage of a GMT function. The maison have now added a new model to this series—the Luminor Quaranta BiTempo Goldtech—a resplendent offering crafted in the precious metal, featuring the instantly recognisable cushion-shaped case. Goldtech is a trademark material, developed by Panerai and uses a combination of platinum and copper, giving an intense red appearance, making it highly resistant to tarnishing, thereby increasing the watch’s durability.
Just like its siblings, the watch also measures 40mm but is enhanced by the power of gold. Also, as a link to their rich watchmaking tradition, Panerai have also quipped this watch with a discrete minuterie inspired by early 2000s watches. It goes without saying that signature elements such as the crown-protecting bridge are an integral part of this watch, which features a sun-brushed black sandwich dial with white Super-LumiNova for greater legibility and a see-through sapphire crystal caseback, providing a glimpse into the watch movement’s intricate workings. The watch face showcases luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers, with a prominent date window positioned at three o’clock and small seconds at nine o’clock. One can also see the name ‘BiTempo’ inscribed on the dial, meaning ‘dual time’ in Italian, which is a nod to the watch’s main GMT feature.
Under the hood of the solid Luminor Quaranta BiTempo Goldtech case lies the automatic P.900/GMT calibre, beating at a frequency of 28,800vph to supply the watch with a generous three-day power reserve. Measuring 28mm in diameter and 4.2mm in thickness, the movement is among the slimmest automatic calibers in the Panerai portfolio. The energy is supplied by a bi-directional oscillating weight and stored in a single barrel. It is also equipped with a stop-second function and a GMT complication with a 12-hour display.
Water-resistant to 100m, the Panerai Luminor Quaranta BiTempo Goldtech is presented on a black alligator leather strap fitted with a brushed Goldtech trapezoidal buckle, and is equipped with the intuitive PAM Click Release System, allowing for an easy switch to the second option of a black rubber strap.
