Panerai are celebrating their long-standing association with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team that began in 2019. The Italian maison have introduced new watches in their Submersible collection that showcase their technological prowess while also paying tribute to their glorious maritime heritage. This is also a well-timed move as the 37th edition of the America’s Cup is all set to happen in Barcelona this year, with Panerai as the Official Sponsor.
“Our association with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team resonates deeply with Panerai’s maritime heritage and our pursuit of boundary-pushing performance. This partnership is a natural extension of our brand’s core values,” CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué has stated in an official press release. The brand’s highlight amongst the new launches would definitely be the Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition. Limited to just 20 units, this timepiece is the first Submersible in 45mm to feature the tourbillon complication and also the first of its kind to ‘marry the complexity of a tourbillon with the futuristic appeal of Carbotech—a composite material based on carbon fibre’. It is lighter than titanium and ceramic and offers great resistance to external forces and corrosion. This is used to craft the watch’s case, which has been scaled down in size but doesn’t minimise the impressive presence on the wrist. It is driven by the hand-wound P.2015/T mechanical calibre, resulting from three years of dedicated development—where just the assembly of the movement and tourbillon cage required eight hours of painstaking craftsmanship. This mechanism has been patented and the tourbillon completes a horizontal rotation every 30 seconds. It rotates on the perpendicular to the balance wheel and thus compensates for the effects of gravity on the accuracy of the timepiece. Beating at a frequency of 28,800vph, the watch offers a phenomenal four-day power reserve, whose indicator is placed on the reverse side of the watch. The dial also showcases a 24-hour GMT function and a night and day indication at three o’clock. Water-resistant to 300m, it is presented on a bi-material rubber and textile strap.
“This Experience edition is also our commitment to offering invaluable insights to our clientele, allowing them to not only own a timepiece of precise engineering but also the opportunity to immerse in experiences that define modern heroes,” says Pontroué.
And there is more for watch lovers to look forward to from the brand. There are two Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech models, which represent a strategic alliance of high performance and cutting-edge technology in the shape of a new innovative material, Ti-Ceramitech. Available in dial options of blue or white, the watch looks elegant, thanks to its minimalistic aesthetic and comes with two strap options. It is powered by the automatic P.900, a calibre, renowned for its reliability with a three-day power reserve.
Another notable mention is the Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio that pays homage to the official America’s Cup races. It embodies the innovative spirit of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, and comes in titanium—also one of the materials used to build the Luna Rossa boat. Water-resistant to 500m, this watch has been rigorously tested, subjecting it to a pressure up to 25 percent greater than the guaranteed water resistance and is driven by the automatic P.900/GMT movement, offering a three-day power reserve.
