The Tonda PF collection by Parmigiani is a host to some of the most distinguished complications, be it a highly functional chronograph, a meticulously crafted skeletonised watch, or an annual calendar with a retrograde date. Among these imposing timepieces is a series of automatic Tonda PF watches that further elevate the collection with their understated and sophisticated design, epitomising the collection’s commitment to placing sartorial elegance at the core of luxury watchmaking. Since the debut of the collection in 2021, it has transformed into a range that ensures there is a distinct appeal for everyone, which brings us to the 36mm Tonda PF Automatic introduced in 2022. The same year, the Tonda PF Automatic Rose Gold Deep Ruby bagged a prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG)—the premier awards ceremony in the world of watches. Commemorating the triumph of this exceptional timepiece and pursuing further recognition, Parmigiani Fleurier have unveiled a spectacular addition—the inaugural two-tone Tonda PF Automatic, in 18-karat rose gold and steel, along with the newest iteration of the Deep Ruby.
Sleek Sophistication: The Two-Tone Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic
The two-tone Parmigiani Tonda PF Automaitc 36mm is a result of vivid imagination that had to overcome several aesthetic challenges. Adding gold to steel was, of course, the aim here, but it had to be thoughtful to deliver a profound piece—an execution focused on amplifying the case and bracelet’s architectural details for a heightened aesthetic appeal. To fulfil this vision, the accomplished artisans at Parmigiani created the knurled bezel of the Tonda PF in 18-karat rose gold. This seamlessly integrates with the fluid, tapering profile of the bracelet, adorned with rose gold links, creating a harmonious aesthetic.
An exhaustive display of attention to detail, the polished stainless steel links of the bracelet meet the gold vertical links of the two-tone Tonda PF for a surreal contrast that looks gorgeous with the bracelet’s polished and satin-finished surface. Adding to its many pleasures is how the golden links taper in size to reach the folding clasp of the two-tone bracelet, which comes with a steel folding clasp.
Part of this quest to create a phenomenal line of 36mm Tonda PF watches is another gorgeous and cheerful timepiece that embraces a rose gold body and deep ruby dial that has been paired with a ruby alligator leather strap, which comes equipped with an 18-karat rose gold folding clasp.
Both models feature the grain d’orge guilloche finishing, and while the sand grey dial of the gold-and-steel model has been embellished with hand-applied 18-karat rose gold indexes, the ruby iteration boasts rhodium-plated appliques set with 12 baguette-cut diamonds.
The charm of the models is heightened by the rose gold and skeletonised delta-shaped hands, gracefully moving within both references. The supple and svelte cases of the two new references have been fitted with a screwed-in crown, while the front features an antireflective sapphire crystal glass, minimising glare for optimal viewing.
A Gift That Keeps On Giving: The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm
The thought behind the Tonda PF Automatic 36mm range was just not limited to reducing the diameter but was to develop a range that is in perfect synchrony with the intrinsic DNA of the collection. Driven by this philosophy, the watchmaker introduced three new colour variations in the 36mm format—’silver sand’ and the ‘warm grey’ for the steel versions with a platinum bezel and ‘deep ruby’ for the full 18-karat rose gold version.
This award-winning timepiece, honoured at the 2022 GPHG, boasts a polished and satin-finished 18-karat rose gold case and bracelet, while its vibrant ruby dial adds a distinctive touch, setting it apart among gold watches. The three 2022 models, along with the latest references, are driven by the PF770 automatic movement—a high-frequency in-house calibre that can achieve a power reserve of up to 60 hours and features côtes de Genève decoration visible through the transparent caseback.
Though Parmigiani’s two new models showcase a play of contrasting colours and precious materials, they remain, like all Tonda PF watches, true to the collection’s essence of refined elegance and minimalistic charm.
