Although Rado’s Captain Cook collection of dive watches dates back to the 1960s, it is just as relevant today as an everyday-ready timepiece, even if it was originally conceived as a diving tool. Ever since it was revived in 2017, the Captain Cook line, while maintaining the necessary dive watch staples, has included chronograph and world time complications. ‘Master of materials’ Rado offer these timepieces in a variety of metals and ceramics, and combinations of both. The latest Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton is equally suited to adventures on land as it is in water, with its earthy, matt, olive green case and sporty rubber strap. The skeletonised dial with a view of the movement makes the timepiece more rugged and ready to take on a challenge, while classic design codes of the Captain Cook line, paired with rose gold highlights make it just as appropriate for the workplace.
Earthy Tones Of The Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton
The 43mm monobloc case of the Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton watch features a rose gold unidirectional bezel, much like the one on the brand’s ‘plasma’ High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton timepiece released earlier this year. However, while the plasma version featured an anthracite case, bracelet and bezel insert, the case of the latest version is in a beautiful shade of matt green. Against this muted, organic, earthy hue, a rose gold PVD-coated steel bezel and crown stand out. A green ceramic bezel insert and matching textured rubber strap, with a ceramic clasp and rose gold pushers, complete the dual-toned nature of the timepiece. Marked in intervals of five, the bezel is easy to read and operate. Like all other Captain Cook watches, this too offers a water resistance of 300m, making it an extremely wearable everyday timepiece.
Openworked Dial Of The Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton
On the grey-tinted sapphire crystal dial, brushed rose gold hands and indexes, filled with white Super-LumiNova, offer relief from the greenish case and bezel. Through the tinted dial and the display window of the titanium caseback, Rado’s automatic calibre R808 can be admired. A rose gold-brushed centre wheel bridge stands out on the dial. The movement is antimagnetic, owing to its Nivachron hairspring, and offers a cool power reserve of 80 hours.
Though the super-robust ceramic case is undoubtedly the highlight, this Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton watch packs in everything that makes one choose a Rado. Its adventure-ready aesthetic is sure to appeal to those who look forward to challenges—on land, in water, or at the office.
