Last year, Swiss watch maker TAG Heuer and German sports car manufacturer Porsche announced the birth of an extensive partnership with an objective of brand integration. Sharing common history and values, the partnership has released five immensely successful timepieces. For 2023, both brands unveiled the sixth edition showcasing their collaboration—the immaculately sleek TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing.
Racing On The Same Track
When it comes to values and history of the two brands, racing has always been the common ground: for more than 70 years, TAG Heuer and Porsche have shared an intertwined pathway to their mutual love for the sport. Both their founding fathers, Edouard Heuer and Ferdinand Porsche, were pioneers whose vision changed the world of motorsports—from Heuer being responsible for creating the first manufactured chronograph, to Porsche building its most powerful model. The legendary Carrera Panamericana race inspired both Porsche and Heuer to name their respective creations Carrera, albeit a few years apart. This led to the inception of the now-iconic TAG Heuer Carrera watch and the powerful Porsche 911 Carrera sports car.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph X Porsche Orange Racing is the sixth edition epitomising the successful partnership of the two brands. Incidentally, the timepiece also marks the 60th anniversary of the Carrera watch.
Porsche Orange: Colour Of Fire And Speed
Based on the iconic TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph of 2020, and following a similar theme to the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition of 2021, this new orange edition is a vibrant addition to an already incredible Carrera line. According to the brand, the orange colour emulates heat sparks made by cars on the asphalt. It is also a nod to the racing universe, and subtly hints at the colour of fire, which symbolises speed.
Like its older siblings, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph X Porsche Orange Racing comes in a 44mm (standard size) black diamond-like carbon (DLC) steel case, which offsets the orange accents perfectly. The black ceramic tachymeter bezel, used for measuring speed or distance, is decorated with white markings, and a bright orange Porsche logo between the 60 and 400km per hour spot.
The black vertically brushed dial—also inspired by speed marks—is home to the signature Arabic minutes numerals, three orange-outlined counters at three, six, and nine o’clock, and a black flange ring with white markings. Unlike the other Carrera Chronograph X Porsche editions, the 2023 Orange Racing edition features a greater percentage of orange accents.
This includes the highlight rings on the dial and the sub-counters, the orange central chronograph seconds and sub counter hands, the orange lacquer on the crown, and the orange stitching on the textured black calfskin leather strap.
Under The Porsche Orange Racing Hood
Working under the hood of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Porsche Orange Racing is the popular in-house Calibre Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement, which consists of 168 parts. The movement packs in a hefty 80-hour power reserve and offers a coveted column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph actuation system. This movement can be admired through the display caseback on turning the timepiece over.
Adding the perfect finishing to the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Porsche Orange Racing is the racing-inspired carbon-like calfskin strap in black, with a vivid orange lining. The stitching on the strap is inspired by the seat upholstery of Porsche cars. The watch is also presented in a specially designed co-branded ‘TAG Heuer X Porsche’ black packaging with orange details.
