ReviewMay The Impetus Be With You: Introducing Titoni’s Impetus CeramTech Watches

Titoni present the youthful and sporty Impetus CeramTech, a hardy and versatile everyday watch in steel and high-tech ceramic, paired with an integrated and interchangeable rubber strap

May We Recommend

Independent Swiss watchmakers Titoni may be over a century old, but their outlook is as fresh as the young and energetic watchmaking brands of today. Sure, they have their modern-day classics such as the Airmaster and Master collections, and renewals and reiterations of actual classics like their Bicompax Heritage chronographs. Yet, their newer Seascoper watches are testament to the fact that they’ve got their eye on the ball, and their latest Impetus CeramTech watches reinforce the brand’s commitment to keeping up with current trends. This new everyday sports watch from the house of Titoni features a stainless steel case with a scratch resistant ceramic ring in colours that match the dial and integrated, interchangeable rubber straps.

This new release is a sort-of updated extension of Titoni’s Impetus line, but much more contemporary and versatile in its execution. While the Impetus has been around for a while, the steel watch with an integrated bracelet has a more serious workwear aesthetic. On the other hand, the six new Impetus CeramTech timepieces, in as many dial and strap options, are lightweight, hardy and water resistant to 300m—all present-day prerequisites of an everyday watch.

Impetus CeramTech And The Ceramic Case

The 43mm steel case of the Impetus CeramTech features a grooved—and even groovy—ceramic ring around it. Matching this ring is a ceramic ‘pill’ on the crown at three o’clock, which is, incidentally, also decorated with a coloured ring. The plum blossom logo on the crown’s inlay adds a distinct vitality to the watch. Attention to small details such as this is what makes the Titoni Impetus CeramTech stand out. Angled crown guards and lugs enhance the geometric shape of the 12-sided steel bezel, marked in intervals of 10 with embossed numerals that match the colour of the ceramic ring around the case.

The inner flange ring houses the minutes/seconds track, with Arabic numerals in intervals of five, and six inverted triangles for multiples of 10, offering perfect harmony between bezel and flange, despite the differences in colour and materials of both.

A Groovy Dial With Winged Hands

Matt-finished dials are coloured in white, bright ‘Argentina blue’, and a deeper ‘bleu de France’, and are decorated with vertical grooves that match the grooved ceramic ring around the case. Baton indexes mark the hours, with larger, angular markers at 12, six and nine o’clock, all filled with Super-LumiNova. At three is the date window. Baton-shaped hour and minute hands feature ‘wings’ that match the ceramic ring on the case—the wings on the longer minute hand can easily be mistaken for an outline for how slim they are.

Sporty Colours Of The Impetus CeramTech

The ‘Argentina blue’ is perhaps the most noteworthy watch in the collection. The light blue dial, strap and ceramic ring are paired with a black DLC-treated steel case and bezel, its black crown decorated with a yellow ring and a signed blue inlay. Numerals in yellow on the black bezel, and an inverse yellow flange marked in black, are beautifully synced. A light blue vertically grooved dial with black lume-filled hour markers let the winged hour hand take centre stage—yellow wings stand out on the black lume-filled hour hand, while a yellow minutes hand features narrow black wings.

This Argentina blue on the ceramic ring and rubber strap, when paired with a steel case and white dial with black highlights, makes for a light, summery watch. Blued wings on the hour hand, a blue crown inlay and ceramic ring, and embossed blue numerals on the bezel offer a minimal pop of colour. A darker ‘blue de France’ ceramic ring and strap on steel, paired with either a matching blue dial or a white one looks more grown-up than the lighter blue. On the other hand, the white dials with either a black DLC-treated case or a steel case are more subdued—yet still energetic—versions of the timepiece.

Strappy And Youthful Impetus CeramTech

The Impetus CeramTech is presented on an integrated rubber strap, with an optional steel strap in a finish that matches the lugs and bezel. The ‘fine adjustment system’ of the brand offers easy interchangeability, which makes this a fun, versatile, everyday watch.

It is the little details that add a distinct spark of youthfulness to the Impetus CeramTech. The plays with colour are well thought-out and in no way garish. Yes, this is a bold watch, but as is expected from a brand as old as Titoni, they know how—and where—to tone down the attitude just enough to make it a statement.
