Since 2009, the Frederique Constant Runabout collection has celebrated the timeless elegance of 1920s Italian runabout yachts with a series of exquisite limited-edition timepieces. Drawing inspiration from the yachts' sleek wood, gleaming chrome, and shimmering glass, this collection reflects their classic beauty and sophisticated charm. Launched in partnership with the Riva Historical Society in 2013, it honours the enduring legacy of these iconic boats, capturing their refined grace and elegance that continues to shine on the world's most prestigious waterways.
Design and Iterations
The Runabout watches draw direct inspiration from the elegant runabout boats of the early 20th century, which were celebrated for their polished wood and gleaming chrome. Each model captures this aesthetic with luxurious details, such as guilloché dials and cases in rose gold or stainless steel. The dials often feature classic Clous de Paris patterns and luminous hands, blending sophistication with functionality. The collection also includes limited edition pieces, each presented in a special gift box and a miniature runabout yacht replica.
The special edition model is strictly limited, with its exclusivity marked by individual numbering on the case back and an original RHS flag imprint on the sapphire crystal. The collection incorporates automatic movement to ensure precision timekeeping, while the range includes models with varying dials and complications, such as chronographs and date windows. For example, the Runabout Automatic FC-303RMN5B6 features a navy guilloché dial with luminous hands, a navy leather strap, and a transparent caseback. The chronograph models feature tricompax layouts and a 46-hour power reserve, with designs available in grey or silver dials paired with leather straps. Water-resistant up to 5ATM, these watches are designed for both formal occasions and everyday wear, embodying a balance of style, durability, and Swiss craftsmanship.
