History
Japan is known for its technical acumen and ingenuity and with Seiko carrying those traditions, it is highly likely that they will come up with innovative ideas every now and then. This is further corroborated by the Seiko Kinetic collection. Fitted with the world's first movement featuring both the quartz and a mechanical movement, the Seiko Kinetic movement was first introduced in 1986 at the Basel Fair. Since then, the Seiko Kinetic collection has been added with more features and accomplishments that have previously studded this brilliant collection.
Movement
To better understand the collection, one needs to understand the movement powering the collection. A kinetic watch or, better said a kinetic movement works on a principle similar to automatic movements with changes to the way it is powered. Specifically, automatic watches are powered by the wearer's movement that powers their spring. In case of kinetic movements, the wearer's moves charge a piece of quartz crystal; the charged energy is then stored in a battery, called a capacitor. So, simply stated, the main difference between an automatic and kinetic watch is in the processing of the energy made by the watch's wearer.
Features
These simple, elegant set of timepieces feature a collection of dauphine and sword hands. Apart from the hands, the Kinetic collection also features a date window at the 3 o'clock marker with a day marker spanning between the 4 and 7 o'clock marker.
