About the Arnold & Son DBG Collection
History
For the years after its revival, Arnold & Son has crafted itself as a true classic with an avant-garde approach. This theory can be perfectly tested inside the Arnold & Son DBG collection that was first released in 2012 along with its sister collection, the DBS.
Features
The term DBG stands for “Double Balance GMT”. The dual-timer is equipped with two dials and a single second hand sweeping over the two dials. Whereas, at the 12 o'clock marker there is a small dial indicating the AM/PM feature for the two timezones by two different hands. Below the dials are two balance wheels, these balance wheels partially expose the movement. Whereas, in the Skeleton variant, the whole complex movement is visible with utmost precision.
Movement
Equipped with the in-house movement manufactured by Arnold & Son, the A&S1309 is a manually wound calibre. Vibrating at 3Hz with a power reserve of 40 hours, the A&S1309 is just 3.9mm thick. The A&S1309 is equipped with technically two movements and is powered by a single winding system. When one turns the watch over and looks at the movement, they realise that it is a perfect amalgamation of two movements. This, in turn, translates into setting the time of these two dials independently. One needs to set the time with two crowns fitted on both sides of the case. Most timepieces equipped with two dials share the minute hands but this is not the case with the DBG collection as the minute hands are also bifurcated perfectly.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The idea of combining the concepts of outer space into horology might not be new but it is still very much in fashion. One such timepiece is the Arnold & Son Nebula, a watch that resembles a Nebula with the help of its movement’s components. Inside the Nebula is the manual-winding movement, the A&S5101. The A&S5101 offers a power reserve of approximately 90 hours while the vibrating frequency is at 21,600 vph. Fitted with two barrels, the A&S5101 offers constant torque throughout the cycle of power delivery imparting optimum precision.
