About the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Collection
History
The Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection is a celebration of the time when the brand was awarded the Neuchâtel Observatory Centenary Prize. 1966 was an important year for the brand as the Gyromatic movement by Girard-Perregaux became the first high-frequency movement that used to beat at 36,000 vph. In 1967, the Neuchatel Observatory awarded the chronometer certificates to almost 70% of Girard-Perregaux's in-house movements. These watches were round, simple, and elegant. The modern Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection instils the mechanical acumen and aesthetical acuity of the watches from the 60s.
Features
A typical dress watch, the 1966 collection is equipped with a round case available mainly in stainless steel but it is also available in pink gold, and steel DLC. The dials of the 1966 collection are equipped with various materials such as aventurine in the 1966 Orion series. Apart from aventurine, the 1966 Infinity edition is available in the Onyx dial. The Infinity edition also features a women's watch with a 30mm case size and a diamond-studded bezel. For women, the 30 mm and 36 mm case variants are mostly available in mother-of-pearl and guilloche dials with a few diamond-studded bezel timepieces.Inside the 1966 Date and Moon Phase series, the moon phase is fixed at the 6 o'clock window and the date is displayed by the outer ring of the moon phase sub-dial. The 1966 collection also features the Full Calendar series that is fitted with a moon phase and date indicator at the 6 o'clock marker and a day/month window at the 12 o'clock marker.
Movement
The Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection is fitted with two automatic movements, the GP03300 and GP03200. The GP03300 and GP03200 take most of their inspiration from the Gyromatic movements that were produced during the 50s and 60s by Girard-Perregaux.The GP03300 is an automatic movement with a power reserve of approximately 46 hours. Whereas, the GP03200 is equipped with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
