About the IWC Aquatimer Collection
History
The IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer was launched in 1967 and enjoyed the company of legendary diver and filmmaker, Jacques Cousteau. The 1967 Aquatimer had an impressive spec sheet that featured an external/internal rotating bezel and a water resistance capability of 200 meters. Featuring the first mechanical depth gauge inside IWC, the GST Deep One and the three consecutive launches of GST Deep Two and Three showcased the brand's ability to foray into the diving world with finesse.
Features
The Aquatimer is one step ahead of its competitors with the addition of an internal rotating bezel. Fitted with an ingenious mechanism called the SafeDive system, the collection is introduced with a new innovative rotating bezel. To operate this system, one needs to rotate the outer bezel which then works in unison with the internal bezel, offering a safer diving experience. Apart from the system, there is also a date window at the 3 o'clock marker complemented by luminescent hands. Further cementing the utilitarian aspect of the collection is the Aquatimer Chronograph. Equipped with a minute, seconds, and hour sub-dial at the 12, 9, and 6 o'clock markers, the chronographs add to the robustness of the collection.
Limited Editions
In keeping with the true diver spirit and generosity, the IWC Aquatimer has through the ages extensively supported the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Charles Darwin Research Station. To celebrate this partnership, the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Darwin” was launched. Showcasing deep attachment to the ocean and its accessories, bronze has been used for the first time by IWC in making the case for the “Darwin” edition. The collection also enjoys a deep connection to Jacques Cousteau, researcher and filmmaker, whose extensive work on the Galapagos marine Iguanas is widely acclaimed and watched. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Galapagos Islands” was launched to commemorate the veteran naturalist's findings on biodiversity at the Galapagos Islands. Both of these limited edition timepieces are fitted with a flyback chronograph on the 12 o'clock marker and a small seconds at 6.
