About the Rado DiaStar Original Collection
History
Rado was not a very well-known brand in the world of watchmaking during the 1960s. It was in 1962, the brand gained the recognition it deserved with the launch of the Rado DiaStar Original collection. This was the first scratch-resistant watch in the world and while the watchmakers were busy complicating the mechanical aspect of a timepiece, Rado solely concentrated on the aesthetical aspect of it.
Essence
The DiaStar Original fits the bill for the bold and ageless appeal of the first DiaStar. The off-beat, oval design of the watch is a reminder of the 60s DiaStar and holds a similar sleek avant-garde approach in the collection. This clean, polished set of timepieces is particularly an eye candy for some and a piece of heritage for others.

Be it the baton-shaped hands or the diamond-studded index markers, the DiaStar Original is a simple yet suave on the dial. In terms of displaying matters apart from time, the DiaStar features a day/date feature window either at 6 or 3. The DiaStar Original also features a skeleton variant displaying the robust automatic movement on the dial.

The lineage of this watch dates back to 1962 when Rado launched its lineup under the name Diastar. It was famous because it was world's first scratch free watch lineup. Rado has retained this family till date.
This watch is in league of its own. Oval shape is superimposed on circular dial. This makes the watch a visual treat. Though, the case is black but there is a hint of brown color if the watch is turned sideways.
There is sub seconds dial at 6'o' clock and the main seconds hand is reserved for chronometer. The gold plating is impeccable and gives a very rich look to this watch.
The only downside of this watch is that it is having quartz movement and might not go well with watch aficionados.
This is a perfect watch for any occasion and I am gifting this watch to myself on this new year.
