During the early 1970s, a Colonel from the Swedish Special Forces approached Edox to create a timepiece that was tailor-made specifically for his unit. A secret deal was made between the unit and the brand and in 1973, the Edox SkyDiver collection was created. The request included the robustness of a dive watch and the properties of a pilot's watch. The timepieces under the collection were appreciated to the extent that the brand decided to make them available to the civilian population.
To pay homage to the paratroopers serving the Swedish Armed Forces, Edox decided to revive the original SkyDiver. Limited to 600 units, this limited edition timepiece features large luminescent hands derived from a pilot's watch and coupled with the water-resistance capability of a diver's watch. The SkyDiver Automatic offers a water-resistant capacity of 300 meters. On the caseback, the logo of the Swedish paratroopers is engraved with the serial number of the timepiece.
A natural evolution of the SkyDiver, the SkyDiver Neptunian is a more capable version of the original timepiece. The SkyDiver Neptunian offers a water-resistant capacity of 1000 meters and is equipped with a helium escape valve. Moreover, to further add to the diving capabilities of the watch, the SkyDiver Neptunian also features the brand's famous double O'ring gasket system on the crown.
What is special about Edox?
A leading watchmaker, Edox is also known as the “Water Champion” of the watchmaking industry. This name was derived from the timepiece created by Edox in 1961 called the Delfin, a watch that fitted the patented crown with a double gasket for better water resistance. After gaining fame through Delfin, Edox launched another groundbreaking timepiece in 1965 called the Edox Hydro-Sub. The Hydro-Sub was the first timepiece with a crown that was equipped with a tension ring and a shock-absorbing gasket.
