Early Ikepods were known as Pods, and during this time, the brand launched its first amphibious watch, the Seaslug. Designed by Marc Newson, the Seaslug raised the stakes by expanding the area of expertise for Ikepod. In 2021, the brand decided to launch the Ikepod Seapod collection. Inspired by the Seaslug, the Seapod is designed by the revered watch designer Fabrice Gonet. Gonet is known for working with various watchmaking brands such as Angelus, Louis Moinet, and HYT.
Gonet is known for designing high-end watches, but with the Seapod, he kept the affordable pricing factor in mind. With a pebble-style case, the Seapod is a refined Seaslug with smooth edges. What makes it more design-centric is the absence of a date window which leaves room for symmetrical aesthetics. The futuristic dial provides a rather “A Clockwork Orange” look to the watch. What makes the Seapod unique is how the designer has blended the rotating bezel into the case. Unlike other dive watches, the rotating bezel perfectly amalgamates into the case.
Powered by reliable and precise Miyota movement, the Seapod features the automatic calibre 9039. The upgraded Miyota offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours while vibrating at 4Hz. Just like the original Seaslug, the Seapod also features an exhibition caseback.
