Oris introduced the ProPilot X collection with the groundbreaking ProPilot X Calibre 115 in 2019. This model significantly departed from traditional Oris pilot watches, featuring a skeletonised or open-worked movement from the outset. This design choice highlighted Oris' commitment to pushing boundaries in both aesthetic and technical realms. The ProPilot X Calibre 115 was made to show off its inner workings in 3D, revealing layers of grey bridges that create depth and look striking. However, even with a modern design, it kept classic aviation features like a turbine-style bezel and glowing indexes for easy reading in any light.
Design
The current ProPilot X collection includes the ProPilot X Calibre 400 along with the inaugural Calibre 115. ProPilot X Calibre 400 continues the legacy of innovation set by its predecessor, defying traditional aviator watch aesthetics with a sleek and minimalist design approach. These iterations feature baton indexes instead of large, highly legible numerals and a distinctive colour palette, including smoky grey and salmon hues. The titanium case enhances comfort without compromising durability or performance in aviation contexts. While Calibre 115 comes with large 44mm cases, Calibre 400 arrives in smaller and more versatile 39mm sizes. These watches are paired with integrated bracelets and are equipped with oversized crowns with protectors to underscore the collection's robustness and aviation heritage. Additionally, their refined appearance bridges the gap between tool watch functionality and sophisticated style.
Movement
The ProPilot X watches are designed to deliver exceptional performance and reliability with their in-house movements. While 115 is a more complicated hand-wound calibre that boasts a remarkable 10 days of power reserve, calibre 400 runs on a self-winding mechanism and offers a five-day running autonomy. Notably, the movement ensures high resistance against magnetic fields. The watch's transparent caseback, secured by a titanium encasing ring, provides a captivating view of the intricate movement for aesthetic refinement and technical excellence.
